August Revolution - Victory of Progressive Nations

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent, he appreciated Vietnam’s remarkable achievements since national reunification, especially during the Doi Moi (Renewal) period. Under the creative leadership of the Communist Party and the unity of the people, Vietnam has made extraordinary strides in various fields, from industry and agriculture to urban development.
His visit to Ho Chi Minh City in April 2025 left a profound impression of dynamism and modernity, which he regarded as vivid proof of Vietnam’s sound policies.
Reflecting on bilateral relations, he recalled the friendship forged in the flames of revolution: from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam’s early recognition of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Algeria (1958), the visit of the FLN football team in 1959, to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962 - milestones that laid the foundation for the brotherhood between the two nations. Today, the two Parties are advancing a cooperation document aimed at deepening and strengthening relations.
He affirmed: “Vietnam’s victory was also the victory of Algeria and of progressive peoples around the world who love freedom. From a personal perspective, our generation was honored to live in the era of great figures such as President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap. The victory at Dien Bien Phu and the resistance against the US will forever remain a source of pride for all peoples who struggle for independence and freedom.”
Pedro de Oliveira, Secretary-General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association:
Self-Reliance and Brilliant Leadership Determined Vietnam’s Victory
Historian Pedro de Oliveira emphasized that the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945 was not only a historic milestone for the Vietnamese nation but also a signal to the world of the rise of national liberation movements.

He affirmed that Vietnam’s victory was determined by the spirit of self-reliance and resilience, together with the leadership of the Communist Party, the People’s Army, and leaders such as President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap, as well as the widespread support of international friends.
“In Brazil, we also contributed to this history of solidarity through strong student movements calling for peace and an end to the war in Vietnam,” he recalled.
On Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) process, he considered the 6th National Party Congress in 1986 a historic turning point that enabled Vietnam to build a socialist-oriented market economy despite blockades and embargoes. Today’s achievements, in his view, are vivid evidence of Vietnam’s bravery, intellect, and ability to rise from the ashes of war to assert its international standing.
Professor Andrey Vassoevych - Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia:
Declaration of Independence - “Ideological Weapon” President Ho Chi Minh Gave to the Nation
In an interview with the VNA, Professor Andrey Vassoevych stated that over the past 80 years, the Communist Party of Vietnam has consistently made sound choices to guide the nation’s development through different historical stages, never allowing external interests to override national interests.

He stressed the farsighted vision of President Ho Chi Minh in seizing the moment of Japan’s surrender to proclaim independence, while drafting the Declaration of Independence as an “ideological weapon” for the nation in its struggle against future enemies.
Regarding the Doi Moi policy, he viewed it as Vietnam’s strategic response to major upheavals at that time. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Vietnam resolutely stood on its own feet. Unlike Perestroika in the Soviet Union, Vietnam’s Doi Moi policy propelled the country to robust development, making it a respected economy not only in the region but also globally.
He expressed confidence that pillars such as science and technology, institutional reform, private sector growth, and international integration will enable Vietnam to take off in the new era.
Professor, Dr. Phan Kim Nga, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences:
Vietnam: Reform Without Losing Identity
According to Nhan Dan newspaper, Professor Dr. Phan Kim Nga remarked that the Vietnamese revolution demonstrated that in colonial and semi-feudal countries, proletarian parties could advance to socialism through a “national democratic revolution,” instead of mechanically copying the theoretical stage of “full capitalist development.” This breakthrough in theory opened the possibility of a “non-capitalist path of development” for countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

In practice, Vietnam’s renewal, integration, and socialist modernization have provided a successful model for developing countries worldwide to draw upon. The renewal policy launched in 1986 was, in essence, a continuation of the August Revolution’s spirit in a new era. By establishing a “socialist-oriented market economy,” the Communist Party of Vietnam adopted market mechanisms while maintaining the leading role of public ownership.
By 2024, Vietnam’s GDP had reached 476.3 billion USD, per capita income surpassed 4,700 USD, and the poverty rate had fallen to 1.93%. She affirmed that amid unprecedented global upheavals in a century, Vietnam has steadfastly pursued a unique development path of “renovating without changing color, integrating without assimilating.” This means neither abandoning the essence of socialism nor shying away from active international cooperation and promotion of multilateralism in the new era. Such an approach, she stressed, has produced a “Vietnam solution” for the modernization of developing nations worldwide, offering a new answer to the question of modernization for human civilization.
Looking back over 80 years, she asserted that the August Revolution and the Declaration of Independence remain the “torch awakening Southeast Asia,” the “milestone of renewal in the socialist movement,” and the spiritual foundation enabling the Vietnamese people to embark on an era of transformation - towards the goal of becoming a developed nation with socialist orientation by the mid-21st century.
