The northern region is forecast to endure a period of significant cold weather, with temperatures plunging to as low as 12 degrees Celsius from the evening of January 6 night.
According to predictions made by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold front is set to directly affect both northern mountainous provinces and north-central provinces.
In line with this, temperatures will quickly drop by up to four degrees Celsius to a low of 12 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous localities even seeing a drop to below nine degrees Celsius, the weather forecast authority stated.
Most notably, mountainous regions such as Cao Bang, Lang Son, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, and Ha Giang have been urged to brace for potential spells of frost. Indeed, the lowest temperatures at Mau Son peak in Lang Son province are forecast to reach as low as zero degrees Celsius, with the resort town of Sa Pa in Lao Cai province poised to see temperatures drop to minus one degree Celsius.
Due to these harsh falls in temperature, residents of northern regions, especially the elderly and children, are being urged to wear warm clothes in order to protect their health, with local authorities taking swift measures to help residents in rural areas to protect their plants and animals.

In the winter, when the weather is increasingly colder, children are inclined to suffer from illnesses due to their weak immune system.
To help children overcome the chilly winter, the Good Neighbors International (GNI) in Vietnam gave 50 warm blankets for children with difficulties in the Kindergarten and Primary school in Yen Binh town, Quang Binh district, Ha Giang province.
Although the value of those gifts is modest, GNI hopes that children are always in good health so they can study better.
GNI also has handed over 75 beddings to three kindergartens and primary schools in Tan Bac and Yen Thanh communes of Quang Binh district with a total value of more than VND 90 million (USD 3,893).
In addition to helping address the urgent needs of children to have warm beddings in cold winter, the humanitarian goods also contribute to spread love and care to children in remote areas./.
