Early recovery, responses to COVID-19 and natural disaster for Vietnam locals

Specifically, last week, World Vision Vietnam has distributed 204 storage tanks for drinking water for 204 households and 11,000 kg of rice seeds for 1,100 households in Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province. The total value of this distribution is up to USD 20,000.

World Vision Vietnam’s Response and Early Recovery Program will be implemented during a three-to six-month period. Support during the relief stage consists of food aid, shelter, and other items that help improve the quality of water, sanitation, and hygiene for the targeted households. Early recovery will consist of the relief activities above as well as intervention in regard to nutrition, livelihoods, child protection, and education.

Under the funding of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), World Vision Vietnam also is implementing a recovery project to reduce COVID-19 impact for more than 27,000 vulnerable children and adults of ethnic minority groups residing in Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai provinces.

The project’s budget of almost VND 11 billion (USD 464,158) is aimed to address food insecurity, facilitate alternative livelihoods for families that have lost jobs and income, and promote hygiene practices to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Recently in Muong Cha and Tua Chua Districts (Dien Bien Province), World Vision Vietnam distributed 70 breeding cows to 70 vulnerable households whose livelihoods have been severely affected by COVID-19. Each breeding cow is worth roughly USD 645.

This activity was designed to help these families overcome the difficulties induced by the pandemic, restore household-level agricultural production, improve income, and gradually stabilize their lives.

The total budget for this activity amounted to USD 47,765.

This distribution of breeding cows belongs to the Recovery project, which is being implemented in Tua Chua, Muong Cha Districts (Dien Bien Province), Tram Tau District (Yen Bai Province), Nam Giang District (Quang Nam Province), and Son Tay, Minh Long Districts (Quang Ngai Province)./.
