| On October 23, the Center for Women and Development (CWD) of the Vietnam Women's Union coordinated with the Can Tho Women's Union to organize the event "White Ribbon Breakfast - Join hands to empower women to promote rights and prevent unsafe migration and human trafficking". |
The event was attended by nearly 100 delegates from departments and branches, organizations and unions of Can Tho city, and the Center for Women's Development in the Mekong Delta.
The White Ribbon Breakfast event aims at three goals raising awareness about promoting gender equality and preventing violence, which focuses on strengthening economic empowerment for returned trafficked/migrant women; promoting the roles and responsibilities of the participation of organizations and individuals, especially leaders and men, as pioneers in promoting gender equality and enhancing economic empowerment for women, especially disadvantaged women.
The event also aims to build and strengthen cooperative relationships with relevant organizations and mobilize more resources to support unsafe and trafficked migrant women returning to the locality. At the event, delegates had many ideas contributing to spreading gender equality, and creating opportunities for women to promote their role and position in modern society.

According to Nguyen Thuy Hien - Deputy Director of CWD, increasing women's economic empowerment is helping women escape poverty, creating opportunities for development, and ability to access and meet basic human needs in terms of health care, education, food, clothing, housing and the opportunity to be economically independent at the same level as men. Creating economic empowerment that contributes to improving the position of women in family and society. It requires the cooperation and participation of all sectors, levels, and the entire society.
"What will be shared and encouraged at the White Ribbon Breakfast event, each delegate will be given new energy, and will have a new determination to act to promote gender equality, increase women's rights, and for the prosperity and sustainable development of the locality and the country", Hien emphasized.
| The communication model "White Ribbon Breakfast" was first organized by the Center for Women and Development in 2015 on the basis of previous experience of the Australian Government. The White Ribbon Campaign is a global movement, characterized by the participation of men and boys in order to prevent violence against women and girls. The white flag symbolizes surrender, which is folded into a bow meaning that men reject any form of violence against women. Men are encouraged to wear white ribbons to show their voices against violence. |
