Exhibition Celebrates 80 Years of Italian Women’s Stories and Achievements

Speaking at the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Della Seta emphasized the profound significance of reminding Italian people living and working in Vietnam, international friends, and Hanoi residents who appreciate Italian culture of this historical journey through the stories of remarkable women.

Ambassador Marco Della Seta expressed his appreciation for the enduring contributions of women, describing them as a steadfast pillar in the nation’s development. “The exhibition provides an opportunity to revisit the stories of female figures whose talent, dedication, and determination have helped build the Italy we know today,” he said.

According to the Italian Ambassador, the presence of women in public institutions and across all sectors of society today is the result of a long process of breaking away from traditional norms. The exhibition also offers the people of Hanoi and international friends an opportunity to explore the story of a nation’s transformation through the lens of women’s experiences.

Produced by ANSA and promoted abroad through the diplomatic and consular network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the exhibition retraces the institutional, social, cultural and scientific achievements of Italian women, from the birth of the Republic to the present day.

The exhibition features 120 photographs and archival documents from the collection of the Italian National News Agency (ANSA).

The exhibition, comprising 120 photographs and historical documents accompanied by captions in English and Vietnamese, begins with the institutional referendum of 2 June 1946, the first national election in which Italian women exercised their right to vote, and continues through the stories of leading figures in the country’s contemporary history: from Samantha Cristoforetti, the first Italian woman in space and the first European woman commander of the International Space Station, to Giorgia Meloni, the first woman to hold the office of President of the Council of Ministers.
