On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026), International Workers’ Day (May 1), and the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday, the capital’s tourism sector has proactively implemented a wide range of promotional and demand-stimulation activities. With thorough preparations in infrastructure and services, Hanoi aims to solidify its standing as a destination that is safe, welcoming, high-quality, and appealing.

To ensure service quality and visitor safety, the Hanoi Department of Tourism issued Official Document No. 712/SDL-KHPTTNDL dated April 9, 2026. The document requests tourism businesses across the city to enhance service standards, publicly list prices, prevent touting and overcharging, and prioritize environmental sanitation and food safety. These measures serve as a fundamental step toward creating a civilized tourism environment for both residents and visitors during the extended holiday period.

Amid the festive atmosphere of major national holidays, Hanoi has become a focal point for a wide array of distinctive cultural and artistic events. Notably, on April 30 and May 1, at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Department of Tourism will continue to coordinate with the Mausoleum Management Board to provide free drinking water, milk, and bread to visitors and residents paying their respects. This meaningful initiative reflects the capital’s hospitality and deep respect for visitors from across the country.

In the inner city, visitors can immerse themselves in a series of hands-on traditional craft experiences. The program “Touching crafts in the Old Quarter 2026,” held at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center, along with thematic seminars such as “Vietnamese lacquer - Craftsmanship through stories,” “Ha Vi imprint - The soul of Vietnamese lacquer craft,” and “The influence of French architecture on Vietnamese architecture,” will offer in-depth insights into the flow of heritage. In addition, thematic exhibitions such as “The history of Vietnamese lacquer,” “The flow of Vietnamese lacquer art,” and the experiential space “Touching the depth of heritage” will run through June 2026.

At the Hoan Kiem Lake Cultural Information Center, the art exhibition “Lotus season in memory of Uncle Ho,” featuring paintings inspired by the lotus will provide a meaningful and tranquil destination for art lovers. Meanwhile, major political-artistic programs such as “Symphony of the nation” and “Echoes of the Fatherland” will kick off the 2026 series “Proud to be Vietnamese,” creating a vibrant and patriotic atmosphere across the city.

Expanding beyond the urban core, the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism will host the highland market fair “Colors of Lai Chau” from April 30 to May 3. Traditional rituals such as the Hau Doong ceremony of the Giay people, buffalo worship of the Lu people, along with Mong flute performances and regional specialties, will recreate a vivid highland cultural space, strengthening tourism connectivity among regions. For families and children, destinations such as Bao Son Paradise Park with its “Pony land” festival and West Lake Water Park with the “Summer voyage 2026” program will also officially launch, offering a wide range of entertainment options.

Alongside event organization, Hanoi’s tourism sector is focusing on upgrading infrastructure quality and diversifying products to meet increasingly high market demand. The public passenger transport system, particularly the bus network, has been improved, cleaned, and operated with increased frequency at key transit points to accommodate rising travel needs. Public spaces, flower gardens, and parks have also been maintained following a green, clean, and beautiful orientation, creating ideal recreational spaces for the community.

In particular, within the travel sector, Hanoi is gradually implementing a roadmap to diversify transportation modes and reduce reliance on air travel. The development of high-quality road and rail tourism products, notably the double-decker tourist train “Hanoi five gates - The Hanoi train,” has created a unique highlight for exploring the capital. The Hanoi Department of Tourism also encourages travel companies to restructure their products toward greater flexibility, while ensuring transparent refund and cancellation policies to strengthen trust and protect the legitimate rights of tourists.

With the coordinated efforts of authorities at all levels and the business community, Hanoi’s tourism sector expects to welcome a significant increase in visitor numbers during this holiday period, thereby contributing meaningfully to the city’s socio-economic development goals and promoting the image of a thousand-year-old capital that is dynamic, cultured, and hospitable.
