General P.K Chakravorty, former Indian Defense Attaché in Vietnam (1996-1999), shared in a recent interview that he considered the Vietnam People's Army to be one of the most professional armies in the world. It won important victories such as against French colonialists, American imperialism, and helping the Cambodian people overthrow the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, it has constantly developed, which led to many great achievements, he said.
The modernization strategy of the Vietnam People's Army, initiated in 2016, with the goal of complete modernization by 2030, is highly appreciated. Also, Chakravorty commented that Vietnam has already implemented international commitments since 2020, and actively contributed to UN peacekeeping missions.
"The presence of Vietnamese military officers in international peacekeeping missions has affirmed Vietnam's role and responsibility for world peace, and at the same time enhanced the country's position in the international arena," said General P.K Chakravorty.
Over 80 years of construction and growth, the Vietnam People's Army has made resounding feats, successfully completing the tasks of fighting, defending, and building the Fatherland. Chakravorty viewed the Vietnam People's Army as the pride and solid support of the Vietnamese people.
On the other hand, Professor Carl Thayer, an expert at the Australian Defense Academy, University of New South Wales, also highly appreciated the formation and development of the Vietnam People's Army as well as the role of this force in firmly defending the independence of the Fatherland.
The Australian expert praised the professionalism, creativity, discipline, and operation of the Vietnamese military, especially in cooperating with all countries and participating in humanitarian and peacekeeping activities.
By sending female soldiers to participate in these forces, Thayer said that Vietnam has shown flexibility and ingenuity, which impressed the international community.
Vietnam has now reached out and cooperated with all major countries and made significant contributions to world peace, said Thayer. Vietnam ranks 20th among all countries contributing to UN peacekeeping. The foreign expert hailed this milestone as Vietnam joined a defensive force, without alliances, and is contributing to global stability.
