The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association on Wednesday presented an aid package of over 20,000 USD to support Cambodia in its fight against Covid-19.

The VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga has led a delegation of of the organization and the VCFA to visit the Cambodian Embassy in Vietnam to hand over 500 million VND to help the country in its battle against the coronavirus,

At a handing over ceremony on Wednesday, Nga informed the embassy of Covid-19 prevention and control work of Vietnam over the past few days. At the same time, she expressed her sympathy regarding the difficulties that the government and people of Cambodia have experienced.

“The Covid-19 pandemic is such a global challenge. Every country in the world must join hands to push back the pandemic,” Nga said.

She expressed her belief that with drastic and effective measures taken by the government, the unity of Cambodian people and assistance of international community, Cambodia would soon be able to control the pandemic, gradually stablize and develop the country.

Vu Vuong Viet, VCFA permanent vice chairman, said that in the context of large outbreaks in Cambodia, the VCFA launched a third fund-raising campaign on April 27, calling for support of its members and showing the spirit of sharing and friendship between the two countries.

After 10 days, the campaign has received donation of not only VCFA members but also from other organizations and Vietnamese individuals who care for the country and people of Cambodia, including former leaders of the state and Communist Party of Vietnam.

The 500 million VND was presented to the Cambodian Embassy on Wednesday.

The VCFA also donated 100 million VND in cash, about 2,000 protective coats, 50,000 face masks and 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia.

The association said it hoped that such support would help people in Cambodia overcome challenges posed by Covid-19..

Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth thanked former Party and state leaders of Vietnam, as well as leading officials of the VUFO and VCFA for the assistance, stating that the support had been timely and a major source of encouragement in helping Cambodian people overcome this challenging period.

He said that the assistance reflected the solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Cambodia, Vietnam has offered a wide range of assistance to Cambodia's government and people.

On April 29, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh and representatives from the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha sent 250 million VND (10,869 U.S. dollars) to the Cambodian Buddhist Sangha through the Great Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia Samdech Tep Vong in Unalom pagoda.

On May 7, the Vietnam Consulate General in Preah Sihanouk gifted humanitarian aid to the Community Support Fund under the Vietnam Embassy to Cambodia at Moc Bai International Border Gate (Tay Ninh Province). The aid was given to Vietnamese Cambodian and Cambodian citizens who face difficult living conditions due to the pandemic.
