Hanoi mulls opening walking space around Thien Quang Lake

At a meeting with the Hanoi City Party Committee on January 20, the leaders of Hai Ba Trung district put forth the project of opening the walking space around Thien Quang Lake aiming to promote the values of culture, architecture, and landscapes in the locality, VNExpress reported.

Accordingly, the cultural and walking space around Thien Quang Lake is expected to encompass the Tran Nhan Tong street area (from Quang Trung to Tran Binh Trong street) and the vicinities (Thong Nhat Park, flower garden, and the Youth cultural house).

Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue concurred with the proposal and asked the district to carry out the project to boost the night-time economy and augment the local image.

The capital’s first pedestrian street was inaugurated in 2004 at Hang Dao - Hang Ngang - Hang Duong - Dong Xuan - Hang Gia. After 16 years, Hoan Kiem district expanded 3 more walking spaces at Hanoi Old Quarter in 2014 (Hang Buom, Ma May, Dao Duy Tu, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Ta Hien); Hoan Kiem Lake walking space and vicinity in 2016.

By the end of 2020, 8 more streets of Dinh Liet, Gia Ngu, Cau Go, Hang Be, Hang Dau, Hang Bac, Dao Duy Tu, O Quan Chuong, and three alleys of Cau Go, Trung Yen, Phat Loc officially became walking space.

In mid-2018, Tay Ho district launched 1-km-long Trinh Cong Son walking street.

In 2016, Thanh Xuan district also planned to open the pedestrian street combining with commerce and nighttime service at Nguyen Quy Duc street and was slated to inaugurate in early 2017. Nevertheless, so far, the plan hasn’t been implemented.
