Fisheries Surveillance Team No. 4 under Coast Guard Region 3 Command, the Provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Information and Mass Mobilization, the People’s Court of Lam Dong province, and the People’s Committee of Phan Thiet ward, in coordination with Justice Newspaper, organized a “mock trial” to raise awareness about combating IUU fishing among more than 200 local fishermen on the afternoon of March 24 in Phan Thiet ward, Lam Dong province.

Fishing activities by fishermen in the waters of Nghe An province have become increasingly vibrant, contributing to local economic development. However, alongside these positive signs, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing still poses potential risks. In response, the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard has recently implemented a range of strong measures to prevent and curb this situation.

The EC's Director for International Ocean Governance and Sustainable Fisheries Fernando Andresen Guimaraes acknowledged Vietnam’s remarkable progress over the past eight years, citing advances such as the national fisheries database (VNFishbase), electronic catch documentation and traceability (eCDT), and near-universal installation of vessel monitoring systems (VMS).

On the basis of the EU-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and with a constructive approach, PM Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s continued close cooperation in combating IUU fishing, while expressing his hope and confidence that the EC will consider lifting the “yellow card” warning against Vietnamese seafood, thereby further strengthening effective and substantive cooperation between Vietnam, the EU and its member states.
