According to IMD, on March 8, thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty winds (30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) is very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand; with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya and with lightning at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

The Western Disturbance is now seen as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis ar 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Longitude 66oE to the North of Latitude 30oN and an induced cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. Under their influence:

Widespread rainfall/snowfall with isolated heavy fall very likely over Western Himalayan Region on 7th March anf isolated rainfall/snowfall over the region during 8-9th March. Isolated trace/very light rain/drizzle very likely over Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi during 7-10th March.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to Weather.com, a fresh western disturbance affects northwest India, causing fairly widespread rain/snow, with isolated heavy rains over Western Himalayan Region and isolated drizzle in the plains over the next two day, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and north Haryana will witness isolated lightning and hail on Sunday, while such conditions will prevail over Uttrakhand will Monday.

In view of the above predictions, the entire WHR will remain under an orange alert ("be prepared" for rough weather) for Sunday, while Uttarakhand continued to be under alert for Monday. Another feeble western disturbance is likely to affect Trans and Western Himalayas on Wednesday and Thursday, with widespread rain/snow over high-altitude regions and isolated rains over plans.

Meanwhile, the ongoing snow/rainfall event along with thunderstorms due to a local cyclonic circulation across northeast India will continue into next week. Assam, Manipur, Arunachal, Tripura, Mizoram and Nagaland will witness isolated to widespread rainfall till Wednesday.

Apart from these regions, sunny weather is expected across the country due to a large high pressure prevailing over the region.

In terms of temperature, both daytime and nighttime will be quite warmer than normal in the northern half of the subcontinent. Even in some parts of Odisha, a maximum temperature of 40°C or more is possible on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will continue to be quite higher in the central part of the Himalayas, including Nepal at least until late March. Maximum daytime temperatures of 40°C or more are possible on lowland areas near the Konkan coast such as Kalyan, Mahad, Chiplun and Rajapur for the next 5 days.

Regional Forecast

Scattered thunderstorms are possible over much of the Western Himalayan Region and northwestern plains, including NCR. Tripura, southern Assam, Manipur and northern Mizoram can also expect scattered rains.

Maximum temperature of 40°C or more is possible over some plain areas of inland from the Konkan Coast such as east & southeast of Mumbai (Kalyan, Mahad, Chiplun & Rajapur) and around Puttur in Karnataka.

In the morning, dense fog is possible on the northeast coast of Andhra Pradesh, coastal Odisha and the south end of Gujarat. The air quality will be very poor over NCR, some parts of Uttar Pradesh and the Thar Desert.
