On August 8 (local time), marking the 59th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to further deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in line with the Act East Policy.
According to VNA correspondent in New Delhi, in a post on social media platform X, Minister Jaishankar extended congratulations to ASEAN member states, while emphasizing that relations between the two sides continue to be strengthened across key areas, including connectivity, trade, digital integration, sustainable supply chains, defence, education and cultural exchanges.
The Indian Foreign Minister expressed confidence that ASEAN-India relations will continue to develop in both depth and scale, making positive contributions to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
The statement came as India and ASEAN are stepping up cooperation following the elevation of their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.
Last July, in Manila, Minister Jaishankar co-chaired the ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where the two sides discussed measures to promote cooperation across various fields and enhance coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.
