The Canadian volunteer enjoyed working with Vietnamese students the most. They build houses together, learning typical construction techniques that are only available in Vietnam. With the guidance of the local people, they built brick walls and gave old houses new paint.

“I went to some Vietnamese stores in the US to try it first and luckily, I felt very good. When I arrived in Quang Ngai, I found it interesting that people have the habit of drinking coffee and eating bread in the morning, which is a unique cultural feature that I like very much," said Stephen.
Pham Thi Nhan, a resident of Tan Hy village (Van Tuong commune) expressed her gratitude to the volunteer group, saying that her old house has deteriorated so seriously that during the rainy and stormy season, she always lived in anxiety.
“I used to have to live everywhere else because of the fear of the house collapsing. Now supported by a new house, my family has a safe home,” said Nhan.
According to Ho Thi Thu Thanh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Youth Union of Quang Ngai Province, the summer international volunteer exchange program has many meaningful values.
“This is an opportunity to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between American students and Quang Ngai youth. At the same time, it helps spread the spirit of volunteerism and sharing for the community, bringing practical values,” she said.
From 2006 to now, Quang Ngai province has welcomed 17 international student volunteer batches, participated in the construction of 64 houses and schools, with a total support budget of more than VND 2.1 billion. Nearly 1,000 American students have successively come to Quang Ngai each summer, with their youthful spirit, enthusiasm, and sincere friendship.
