At the event, presenters from the participating units outlined the core provisions of the Fisheries Law, the Vietnam Coast Guard Law, the Vietnam Border Guard Law, and related legal regulations governing fisheries management. The sessions were delivered practically, focusing on clarifying situations commonly encountered by fishermen during offshore fishing activities.

During the discussion segment, fishermen received detailed guidance on recording and submitting fishing and seafood purchase logbooks, as well as procedures for notification in cases where fishing vessels lose connection to vessel monitoring systems (VMS), and the requirements for maintaining VMS operation throughout fishing trips. The Coast Guard and Border Guard forces also introduced information-sharing and communication mechanisms to ensure the timely resolution of issues that arise in practice.

Notably, fishing vessel owners signed commitments pledging not to violate regulations on IUU fishing, demonstrating the fishing community’s sense of responsibility in protecting aquatic resources and complying with the law when operating at sea.

The awareness-raising activity contributed to improving fishermen’s understanding and reinforcing voluntary compliance with the law, thereby supporting the authorities’ efforts to work towards the removal of the European Commission’s (EC) “yellow card” imposed on Vietnam’s fisheries sector.

On this occasion, Flotilla 202 and Trieu Van Border Guard Station presented national flags and distributed informational leaflets on IUU fishing prevention to fishermen in Nam Cua Viet Commune.
