The event, co-organized by the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam and Tourism Malaysia, carries the message that the week is not merely a cultural event but a heartfelt invitation to discover the “heart” of Malaysia.

“Through its rich traditions, diverse cuisine, and vibrant cultural life, we hope to spread the spirit of friendship and close ties between Malaysia and Vietnam,” shared Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai at the press conference.

Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai emphasized that Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country where Malays, Chinese, Indians, and indigenous communities live together in harmony. That diversity in unity is also reflected in Vietnam, creating a strong relationship between the two countries, based on respect and understanding.

According to the Ambassador, this year’s series of activities is built on the spirit of Malaysia Madani - a national initiative by the Malaysian Prime Minister - emphasizing sustainable values, humanity, and trust.

Through the event, Malaysia aims to promote deeper cooperation with Vietnam in the areas of tourism, culture, education, and trade.

Over the past year, Malaysia welcomed more than 336,000 Vietnamese visitors. In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 168,000 people have traveled between the two countries - impressive numbers showing the deepening, attractiveness and friendship between the two sides.

Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai noted that the infrastructure connecting the two countries is continually improving. As of March, there were 167 direct flights per week between Malaysia and Vietnam, with an increasing number of nighttime flights, offering travelers more flexible options and diverse travel programs.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai provided details on Madani Malaysia Week as follows:

From July 30 to August 3, the Selera Malaysia program - Malaysia Food Festival - at Sheraton Hanoi Hotel will offer guests a chance to experience the signature flavors of Malaysian cuisine, including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous dishes, complemented by music and traditional dance performances.

On August 1, the Business Forum, chaired by Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry will gather strategic partners from both countries to promote new cooperation opportunities.

Also on August 1, Tourism Malaysia and Vietnam Airlines will sign a new cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing connectivity and convenience of travel between the two nations.

Later that evening, the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign will be officially launched at a reception hosted by Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing.

On August 2, Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Education Office will co-host a symposium introducing the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign and discussing potential cooperation in tourism and education, with the goal of welcoming 26 million international visitors next year.

Public activities of the festival will take place from August 2 to 3 at Aeon Mall Long Bien, with the official opening ceremony presided over by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia. Visitors will be immersed in the festive atmosphere with captivating artistic performances and rich cultural activities throughout the weekend.

“On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to ASEAN and Malaysia's role as the rotating chair of ASEAN this year, let us remember that beyond the figures and cooperative outcomes lie the friendship, mutual understanding, and meaningful experiences we share,” emphasized Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai at the press conference.

In a media Q&A session, Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai shared that fruits - especially durian and other tropical varieties - are a source of pride for Malaysia. Durian cultivars like Musang King have become world-renowned thanks to early promotional efforts, particularly in China. The durian industry is thriving and now contributes to several regional economies, including Vietnam.

"Southern Vietnamese cuisine is closer to Malaysian cuisine, with spicy and rich taste. Northern cuisine is a little different but also very delicious. I hope this festival will arouse curiosity and lead to the opening of more Malaysian restaurants and fast food chains in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City,” he noted.

According to Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai, Malaysia is implementing flexible and open tourism policies, including visa exemptions of up to 30 days for ASEAN citizens, including Vietnamese. This simplifies procedures, reduces costs, and increases accessibility.

Malaysia also supports regional tourism initiatives such as the "Six Countries - One Destination" program with Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. The Malaysia My Second Home program also attracts many Vietnamese, especially professionals wishing to live long-term or retire in Malaysia.

Other campaigns, such as Visit Malaysia Year and Malaysia Mega Sale, are being actively promoted. Additionally, according to Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai, Malaysia is investing in educational tourism and medical tourism, fields that offer authentic and meaningful experiences. Malaysia’s advanced healthcare system now draws many international patients.
