On August 28, the National Achievements Exhibition, themed “80 Years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness,” officially opened at the Vietnam Exhibition Center in Dong Anh, Hanoi. Held for the first time on a national scale, this political and cultural event brings together ministries, sectors, localities, businesses, international friends, and diplomatic missions in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Independence Day (September 2).

Affirm pride and aspiration for development

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh solemnly paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh - the great teacher of the Vietnamese Revolution, a national liberation hero, and a great man of culture. He also honored the profound contributions of past generations and expressed deep gratitude to the people, soldiers across the country, and overseas Vietnamese who, through every era, have devoted themselves to the Party’s and the nation’s revolutionary cause.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the exhibition, “80 Years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness,” serves as a powerful tribute to Vietnam’s heroic history. More than a commemoration, it fosters patriotism, national pride, and the collective aspiration to rise, while affirming the country’s growing potential and stature on the path of innovation, integration, and sustainable development.

The exhibition was held on an unprecedented scale, featuring the full participation of 28 ministries and central agencies, 34 localities, and more than 110 enterprises and major economic groups. Over 230 booths were arranged throughout the entire Vietnam Exhibition Center, spanning both the Kim Quy Exhibition House and the outdoor areas across the East, West, South, and North courtyards.

The exhibition showcases the achievements of nearly 180 sectors across a wide range of fields, including industry, agriculture, trade, investment, culture, science and technology, education, health, environment, traditional craft villages, OCOP products, specialty goods, national defense, security, and foreign affairs. Through a rich collection of documents, materials, artifacts, machinery, equipment, documentaries, and reports, it vividly and comprehensively reflects the remarkable accomplishments made over “80 Years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness” under the leadership of the Party. At the same time, the exhibition highlights Vietnam’s enduring cultural traditions, the industrious spirit of its people, and the effective production and business practices of enterprises across all regions. It also portrays the image of Vietnam as a nation with thousands of years of heroic history, a culture deeply rooted in national identity and unified in the diversity of its 54 ethnic groups, and a wealth of products from all three regions. The development and progress of ministries, departments, sectors, and 34 provinces and cities over the past 80 years are also demonstrated.

Designed with scientific precision, modern aesthetics, and professional standards, the exhibition offers a rich, diverse, and comprehensive layout. Its content is authentic, engaging, and persuasive, presented through a variety of expressive forms -from artifacts and images to documents enhanced by cutting-edge technologies such as 3D, virtual reality, multimedia audiovisuals, and artificial intelligence (AI). The result is an experience that is practical, enjoyable, and culturally profound.

Special exhibition spaces

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Exhibition features many special areas that illustrate both the horizontal dimensions of revolutionary history and the vertical layers representing core values and major achievements in the heroic journey of nation-building and defense by the Vietnamese people. Among these, the highlights include:

(1) The central area of ​​the Exhibition, themed "95 years of the Party flag lighting the way", recreates the important events, brilliant milestones, and successes under the leadership of the Party;

(2) Exhibition area "Vietnam - Country - People" showcases the achievements in cultural and artistic development, honoring the beauty of nature, country, and people of Vietnam;

(3) Exhibition area "Economic locomotive" demonstrates the achievements of state-owned corporations and groups;

(4) Exhibition area "Start-up and Nation building" depicts the achievements of outstanding private enterprises;

(5) Exhibition area "Aspiration for the sky" showcases the aerospace sector;

(6) Exhibition area "Sword and Shield" about the achievements of the heroic Vietnam People's Army and Public Security, featuring modern weapons and technical equipment primarily ​​​​​researched, manufactured, and improved by Vietnam.

In particular, at the Exhibition Center, the entire building named “Culture Lights the Way for the Nation” is dedicated to presenting the unique cultural space and artistic expressions of the nation, as reflected across all regions and areas.

"The Lively School" of History

Reflecting on the construction of the Exhibition Center and the meticulous preparation for today’s event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh encapsulated the effort in 36 words: “Resolute leadership and direction - Speedy and bold construction - Effective public-private partnership - Unique architecture and landscape - Modern technology and management - Large scale and high quality.” These elements together form a comprehensive and distinctive space, a panoramic portrayal of the nation’s journey through the struggle for liberation, reunification, and the enduring efforts of the Vietnamese people in fighting, working, studying, and creating under the leadership of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Exhibition profoundly reflects and crystallizes the contributions and dedication of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army throughout the glorious and heroic history of the Vietnamese Revolution. It was shaped by the active, proactive, and creative participation of Party Central Committee's agencies, National Assembly bodies, all levels and sectors, localities, and representatives of the business community throughout the organization and implementation process.

He described the Exhibition as a “lively school,” where tradition and modernity are harmoniously combined to bring history closer and more accessible. It enables today’s generations to better understand their origins and the immense sacrifices and achievements of previous generations, thereby fostering motivation, inspiration, and nurturing the aspiration to lead the country steadily into a new era of wealth, civilization, prosperity, and global stature.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged, highly appreciated, and commended the agencies, units, localities, and enterprises that actively and effectively contributed to the completion of the project and the organization of the Exhibition. Their efforts allow the public to better grasp the nation’s glorious and heroic historical traditions and to enjoy cultural achievements as a spiritual festival of the country.

“This Exhibition is not only a showcase of achievements,” the Prime Minister emphasized, “but also a vivid demonstration of the immense potential of the cultural and entertainment industries, and the great creativity of the Vietnamese people. It exemplifies the harmonious and effective integration of political, economic, traditional cultural, and historical content with modern and engaging forms of expression, affirming the value of Vietnamese culture, the commercial potential of Vietnamese creative products, and contributing to the country’s rapid and sustainable development.”

The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to take the lead and coordinate with relevant ministries, sectors, localities, and enterprises to continue carefully preparing and effectively organizing all exhibition activities, art programs, conferences, exchanges, meetings, forums, and more, so that people across the country and international friends can experience, appreciate, and take pride in the nation’s achievements, and enjoy the National Exhibition Center as a new symbol of both the capital and the country as a whole.

Following the opening speech, General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, along with other current and former leaders of the Party and State, presided over the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Careful preparation, close coordination, effective organization

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, who also serves as Head of the Exhibition Organizing Committee, delivered a report on the preparation and implementation of the event. He stated that, based on the approved project titled “80 Years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness”, the Ministry has proactively and closely coordinated with ministries, sectors, localities, and Vingroup Corporation to mobilize all available resources. With the highest level of determination and effort, the Ministry has focused on ensuring the successful organization of the Exhibition.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has taken the lead in developing the conceptual framework for the Exhibition, working in close collaboration with international consultants to finalize the design of its identity system. This system is applied throughout the exhibition space, ensuring coherence, depth, and artistic sophistication, modern in approach yet deeply rooted in Vietnamese cultural identity.

The central theme of the Exhibition is “80 Years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness.” Its core message affirms that the foundation of all national achievements lies in the wise leadership of the Party, the effective governance of the State, and the unity, creativity, and tireless efforts of the business community and the entire population in building and developing the country over the past eight decades. The Exhibition also honors the patriotism and resilient spirit of self-reliance that defines the Vietnamese people, while inspiring a renewed aspiration to build a prosperous and happy nation in the new era.

More than a space for education and communication, the Exhibition serves as a vibrant cultural and experiential destination for both domestic and international visitors.

A standout feature of this event is the extensive use of cutting-edge technology and the debut of innovative display concepts at a national scale. These include virtual reality, augmented reality, interactive touchscreens, 3D models, and multimedia projections - offering visitors an immersive and engaging experience.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung noted that communication, promotional activities, and tourism linkages are being implemented in a synchronized manner, in coordination with local authorities and travel enterprises.

He expressed his hope that the Exhibition will become a cultural landmark, complemented by a series of large-scale artistic and cultural events held before and during its run. Notably, four concerts hosted at the venue have already drawn nearly 120,000 attendees, generating a powerful ripple effect across society.
