Screenings of films about President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary journey, “return-to-the-roots” excursions, documentary exhibitions, and sports festivals continuing the spirit of physical training… these are among the meaningful activities organized by the Vietnamese communities in Thailand, Laos, the Republic of Korea, and China to mark the 136th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (19 May 1890 - 19 May 2026).

In Bangkok, Thailand, on 17 May, the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand organized a screening of the film “Thau Chin in Siam”, attended by a large number of overseas Vietnamese, intellectuals, Vietnamese students, and staff from agencies affiliated with the Embassy.

According to Nhan Dan newspaper, speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung said that Thailand holds special significance in President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities during the 1928-1929 period. It was a place where he spread patriotism and helped build revolutionary movements among the overseas Vietnamese community.

According to Ambassador Pham Viet Hung, the locations in Thailand that bear traces of President Ho Chi Minh today are not only valuable historical relics but also vivid symbols of Vietnam-Thailand friendship.

A highlight of the program was the film “Thau Chin in Siam”, which recreates the period when Nguyen Ai Quoc operated in Thailand under the alias Thau Chin. The film portrays him teaching the Vietnamese language to overseas compatriots, promoting patriotism, working alongside laborers, establishing schools, and building revolutionary bases.

After the screening, many overseas Vietnamese expressed their emotion upon learning more about President Ho Chi Minh’s simple and close-to-the-people lifestyle during his years of revolutionary activity in Thailand. On this occasion, delegates also offered incense in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh at the grounds of the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok.

In Laos, the Party Committee in Laos organized a “Return-to-the-roots journey following in the footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh” in central provinces of Laos, with the participation of more than 120 delegates including officials, Party members, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Laos, and local authorities.

According to the Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN), the delegation led by Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam visited and offered incense at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site in Khammouane, Khammouane, Laos; the Ho Chi Minh Historical Site in Savannakhet, Savannakhet, Laos; and the Vietnam-Laos Combat Alliance Monument.

Through artifacts, images, and stories about President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities in Laos under the alias Thau Chin, the journey helped delegates gain a deeper understanding of the historical foundation of the special Vietnam–Laos relationship.

On 17 May in the RoK, the Embassy of Vietnam in South Korea organized a ceremony honoring President Ho Chi Minh and offering incense at his memorial room and statue within the Embassy premises.

The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Vu Ho, representatives of the Vietnamese community in the RoK, Vietnamese students and youth, as well as many scholars, artists, and Korean friends who are fond of Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Vu Ho affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh was a genius leader of the Vietnamese nation, an outstanding cultural figure, and a symbol of patriotism, the aspiration for national independence, peace, and profound humanism.

According to Ambassador Vu Ho, honoring President Ho Chi Minh in the RoK is not only meaningful for the overseas Vietnamese community but also contributes to strengthening mutual understanding, empathy, and connections between the peoples of Vietnam and South Korea on the foundation of shared values of peace, cooperation, and development.

Within the framework of the program, delegates watched documentary films about President Ho Chi Minh’s life and revolutionary career with Korean subtitles, and visited exhibitions of paintings, photographs, and archival materials about him. The exhibition attracted significant interest from Korean friends, many of whom expressed admiration for his simple yet great image.

In China, the Vietnamese Student Association in Beijing organized the “2026 community sports connection day,” attracting a large number of Vietnamese students in Beijing and Tianjin. Football and tug-of-war activities took place enthusiastically, creating an atmosphere of exchange and connection within the Vietnamese student community in China.

President of the Vietnamese Student Association in Beijing Do Van Thanh said the event not only aimed to promote physical training but also to spread a spirit of responsibility, solidarity, and patriotism among Vietnamese students abroad.

According to Nguyen Duy Phong, Counselor at the Embassy of Vietnam in China, the activity also helped strengthen cohesion among generations of Vietnamese students and create an environment in which they can support one another in study and life.
