PM Phuc to attend ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit, pay official visit to RoK

Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang released the news at a press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday (Nov 21).
The PM’s attendance at the summits and visit will be made at the invitation of RoK President Moon Jae-in.
The 2019 ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit will take place in RoK’s Busan from November 25 to 26 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between ASEAN and the RoK. It will be the biggest international conference the RoK hosts under the Moon Jae-in administration.
The RoK hosted two Commemorative Summits with ASEAN in Jeju and Busan in 2009 and 2014, respectively. This year’s Commemorative Summit, held in Busan, will be the third of its kind. Among ASEAN’s dialogue partners, RoK is the only country which will have hosted all three Commemorative Summits with ASEAN in its own country.
Meanwhile, the first Mekong-RoK Summit will take place in Busan, Korea, on November 27 in conjunction with the 2019 ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit.
The Mekong coutries including the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
This event will be the first Summit between the Mekong region and RoK and is the result of continued cooperation since its first ministerial meeting in 2011.
This year’s meeting will serve as an opportunity to evaluate the 10 years of Mekong-RoK relations and discuss ways for future cooperation so that the Miracle on the Han River can lead to the Miracle on the Mekong River. It will also pave the way for mutual growth by enhancing concrete collaboration that meets local needs and strengthening the capacity of the Mekong countries.
As part of his official visit to the RoK, PM Phuc is expected to hold talks with President Moon Je-in and meet with the Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, VGP reported.
The RoK has been one of Vietnam’s top partners, especially the Northeast Asian country has poured USD 65.7 billion in 8,190 projects in Vietnam, ranking first among foreign investors and playing significant role in Vietnam’s key economic sectors such as electronics, energy, automobile, garments, construction and service.
The two-way trade value hit USD 65.8 billion in 2018 and USD 44 billion in the first eight months of 2019./.
