Project Tackles Economic Barriers To Education of Fishermen’s Children

The National Fund for Vietnamese Children and Acecook Vietnam Joint Stock Company recently signed agreement for a project to support disadvantaged children from fishermen families.

With a total budget of VND 1.1 billion (USD 43.200), the National Fund for Vietnamese Children will support 166 children (VND 6 million per child each year) in 18 provinces and cities including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Ca Mau and Kien Giang. These are coastal provinces and cities with children of fishermen in particularly difficult circumstances.

For fishermen to feel secure in going out to sea and clinging to the sea, over the years, the Party, State as well as all levels and branches have had many activities to take care of the fishermen's rear, especially taking care of, protect and educate children in coastal areas.

The beneficiaries of the project are orphans, children from single households, children from poor, near-poor households and policy families, and children in coastal areas with difficult family economic circumstances. With the funds from the project, children will have better learning conditions. At the same time, it encourages fishermen to feel secure in going offshore, clinging to the sea, and stabilizing their lives; contributing to implementing social security work on islands.

The project also presented support (VND 6 million per child) to its first beneficiaries, Chiu Thi Hanh from Tien Lang commune, Tien Yen district, Quang Ninh province, and Dinh Xuan Bao Nam, Do Son town, Hai Phong.

Speaking at the program, Dinh Tien Hai, head of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, thanked the agencies, units, and businesses that have always accompanied and supported the fund to help hundreds of economically disadvantaged families go to school.
