The remains were found in Laos and brought back to Vietnam by the provincial Military Command’s search team for martyrs’ remains during the 2018-2019 dry season.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Tuan said the search, repatriation, and reburial of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts reflects the special sentiments towards those who dedicated their lives to independence and freedom in Vietnam and Laos.
Tuan said the provincial Party Committee, authorities, army, and people are determined to foster the Vietnam-Laos friendship and special solidarity, as well as accomplish tasks set to make the noble dedications of war heroes worthwhile.
He conveyed his profound thanks to leaders of the Lao Party, authorities, armed forces, and people, especially those in Houaphane province, and wished that both sides would continue working closely together to search for and collect the missing remains of other Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts in the near future.
Since 1998, the team has searched, unearthed, and repatriated 2,205 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs.
During the 2018-2019 dry season, besides the 18 sets of remains found in Laos, the team also unearthed the remains of nine fallen soldiers in Vietnam./.
