Samsung Electronics Vietnam in conjunction with the Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the People’s Committee of Hiep Hoa district on July 27 held the groundbreaking ceremony.

This is the third school in the chain of Samsung Hope Schools in Vietnam, following those in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen.

Covering an area of over 8,100sq.m in Hiep Hoa district, the school comprises a two-storey building, a welfare building, a multi-purpose building, a sport ground, a garage, and gardens. It is built with a total budget of nearly VND 20 billion (USD 860,000). Of the figure, more than VND 8 billion (USD 346,000) will be funded by Samsung Vietnam to finance facility building, equipment purchase, and management cost.

The school is scheduled to be completed in early 2021, benefiting about 300 local students who are in difficult circumstances.

It will implement the Child Development Programme, which offers extracurricular activities related to arts, music, computer and foreign languages, while providing health checkups for its students.

In his speech at the ceremony, Choi Joo-ho, General Director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam, said the school will help needy youths gain access to a comprehensive education system and become good citizens.

The Samsung Hope School project in Bac Giang is implemented after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Samsung Electronics Vietnam, KFHI and the provincial Department of External Affairs in July 2019.

In 2013, the first Samsung Hope School worth USD 300,000 funded by donations from Samsung Electronics Korea employees, was inaugurated in the Red River Delta province of Bac Ninh, providing education to 200 students from the elementary level to high school.

In the time to come, a school of this kind will be built in Lang Son province.

Earlier, the KFHI and Samsung Electronics Vietnam have jointly funded a project on building toilets and water purification systems for 26 primary and secondary schools in Bac Giang, benefiting nearly 200,000 local students.

In 1989, Korea Food for the Hungry International, as the first officially registered overseas aid NGO, spearheaded Korea from receiving to giving nation. Today, KFHI is a global partnership that focuses on poverty needs that relate to food and nutrition, water resource development, primary health care and income enhancement. KFHI also assists in the areas of education, empowering indigenous organisations, and child development while providing relief and rehabilitation with emergency health response.

KFHI started its first humanitarian operation in Vietnam in 2006. Currently, KFHI assists in the areas of education, empowering indigenous organisations, and child development while providing relief and rehabilitation with emergency health response.
