Vietnam settles with bronze in English Billiards’ doubles: Vietnamese duo Nguyen Thanh Binh and Tran Le Anh Tuan clinched a bronze medal in the English Billiards’ doubles at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) held in Hanoi on May 20. Failing to make it to the final, they shared the third place with Praprut Chaithanasakun and Thawat Sujaritthurakarn from Thailand.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist and Yi Wei Puan beat their Myanmar rivals, Min Sithu Tun and Pauk Sa 3 - 1 in the final to settle with a gold medal in the event. Previously, the Philippines’ Johann Chua won 9-2 against Aloysius Yapp from Singapore in an exciting semifinal of the men’s 10-ball pool to advance to the next round, according to VNA.

Vietnam secures another gold in women’s kumite team: Thailand has extended their golden streak at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) after Chantri Witsanu snatched the gold in the men’s 67kg with a total lift of 312 kg.

Mohamad Yasin of Indonesia won the silver with a combined lift of 308kg. Vietnam’s Dinh Xuan Hoang, who won a silver at SEA Games 30 in the Philippines in 2019, lifted 308kg to earn the bronze. For the clean and jerk, both Hoang and the Thai lifter succeeded with 140kg, while their Indonesian rival excelled with 141kg.

Also on May 20, Vietnam’s Hoang Thi Duyen clinched the gold in the women’s 59kg category. The 26-year-old athlete succeeded in a 96kg snatch and broke her own record of 95kg set at SEA Games 30. In the clean and jerk event, Duyen succeeded with 108kg after three times, raising her total lift to 204kg and successfully defending her SEA Games title right on the home ground.

Vietnamese weightlifter wins gold in women's 59kg category: Vietnamese weightlifter Hoang Thi Duyen clinched the gold in the women’s 59kg category at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) on May 20. The 26-year-old athlete succeeded in a 96kg snatch and broke her own record of 95kg set at SEA Games 30 which took place in the Philippines in 2019.

In the clean and jerk event, Duyen succeeded with 108kg after three times, raising her total lift to 204kg and successfully defending her SEA Games title right on the home ground. The silver medal in the women’s 59kg category went to Sirikaew Pimsiri of Thailand with a total lift of 196kg, while the bronze was earned by Myanmar’s Ta Boe Yar Naw with a total lift of 191kg.

Vietnam ranks first in xiangqi: Vietnam's Le Thi Kim Loan outperformed Malaysia’s Xin Ru Jee in the final of the women’s xiangqi (Chinese chess) standard singles in the northern province of Quang Ninh on May 20, securing another gold medal for Vietnam at SEA Games 31. Loan's teammate, Nguyen Hoang Yen, and Ngo Lan Huong from Singapore, both clinched the bronze medal in the event.

Beating Vietnamese player Dang Cuu Tung Lan, Singapore’s Alvin Tsung Han Woo triumphed in the men’s standard singles. Yu Huat Tan and Sze Hien Fang, both of Malaysia, shared the bronze. Xiangqi competitions have wrapped up on the same day, with the Vietnamese team topping the medal tally, claiming three golds in total.

Indonesia, Thailand triumph in men’s, women’s beach volleyball: Indonesia claimed a gold medal in the men’s beach volleyball at SEA Games 31 after defeating Thailand 2 - 0 in the finals held in the northern province of Quang Ninh on May 20. Thailand, meanwhile, successfully defended its title in the women’s beach volleyball, following their 2 - 0 win over Indonesia. The Philippines bagged bronze in both events.

Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian rowers win gold: Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Huong grabbed a gold medal in the women’s 500m canoeing singles at SEA Games 31 on May 20. Meanwhile, in the women’s 500m doubles, Vietnam claimed a bronze. Thai rowers secured gold, and Indonesian athletes earned silver.

Vietnam fetched a silver in the women’s 500m kayak doubles. The gold medal went to Indonesia. The canoeing/kayak competitions will continue in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 21.

Filipino e-Sports team defeat Indonesia in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang final: The eSports team of the Philippines secured a gold medal after defeating their Indonesian rivals in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang final match at SEA Games 31 on May 20. Previously, on May 19 evening, Singaporean eSports players defeated Malaysia with a score of 2-1, getting a bronze medal.

Singaporean sets record in men’s 50m freestyle swimming: Singapore’s Teong Tzen Wei on May 19 set a record in Southeast Asia in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming after finishing first at a time of 21.93 seconds at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in Vietnam’s Hanoi capital.

Earlier, Teong also broke the SEA Games record in the men’s 50m butterfly. On the last competition day of swimming at SEA Games 31 – May 19, Singapore secured four gold medals, raising the total to 21. This result helped the country rank first in the medal table of the sport.

Vietnam claims fifth gold shooting medal: Phi Thanh Thao won the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions on May 20, securing the fifth gold medal for the Vietnamese shooting team at the ongoing SEA Games 31. Thao scored 451.1 points, followed by Thailand’s Plengsaengthong Ratchadaporn with 444.0 points and Veloso Martina Lindsay from Singapore with 435.0 points.

Trinh Thu Vinh scored 214.1 points in the women’s 10m air pistol to win a bronze medal. The gold went to Malaysian shooter Mohd Arifin with 220.3 points and the silver to Thailand’s Prucksakorn with 219.0 points. Thao, Vinh and their teammate Bui Thuy Thu Thuy also won a silver in the women’s 10m air pistol team event with a combined score of 1,695 points. Singapore claimed gold while Thailand received bronze.
