Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi affirmed that the great victories of the Vietnamese nation were closely associated with the immense contributions of President Ho Chi Minh. He also emphasized that Ho Chi Minh’s visionary thinking and timeless ideals laid the first foundation for friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Vietnam and Brazil more than a century ago.

The Ambassador recalled the historic milestone in 1912, when the young patriot Nguyen Tat Thanh stopped in Rio de Janeiro during his journey to seek a path for national salvation. Through his practical experiences in Brazil and many other countries, Ho Chi Minh gradually developed his revolutionary ideology on national liberation, solidarity, and broad international vision, which later became a source of inspiration for movements fighting for national independence and social progress around the world, particularly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi highly appreciated the efforts of the Rio de Janeiro State authorities in preserving the memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh, describing it as a symbol of the friendship and special bond between the peoples of Vietnam and Brazil. He also expressed hope that both sides would continue promoting cooperative initiatives in culture, education, and history, as well as organizing more activities honoring President Ho Chi Minh, thereby enhancing mutual understanding, solidarity, and closeness between the two peoples.

At the event, delegates respectfully offered flowers in remembrance of and deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh. On this occasion, representatives from both countries also participated in exchanges, sharing stories about President Ho Chi Minh and discussing the book “Ho Chi Minh - The life and career of the leader of Vietnam’s national liberation” by journalist and historian Pedro de Oliveira.

Promoting Vietnam-Brazil cooperation

As part of the working visit to Rio de Janeiro State, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi and the Embassy delegation also attended a seminar entitled “Brazil-Vietnam: Dialogue on Ho Chi Minh’s legacy”, organized by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ). The event attracted nearly 70 participants, including legislators, government representatives, scholars, lecturers, students, and Brazilian businesses.

Brazilian speakers participating in the seminar expressed deep respect and admiration for the life, career, and ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, regarding him as a symbol of the aspirations for national independence, social justice, and international solidarity. They stressed that Ho Chi Minh’s ideological legacy continues to inspire progressive movements worldwide while contributing to efforts toward peace, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Brazilian scholars also highly appreciated Vietnam’s current development achievements, viewing them as evidence of the enduring value of Ho Chi Minh’s thought on national self-determination, cooperation among developing countries, and the promotion of mutual understanding among nations.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi proposed that the Brazilian side consider naming streets or public works after President Ho Chi Minh, while also establishing “Vietnam Studies Centers” and “Ho Chi Minh Research Centers” at several universities, libraries, and cultural spaces to introduce the Brazilian public more broadly to Vietnam’s history, culture, country, and people, as well as the life and ideology of President Ho Chi Minh.

The series of activities in Brazil marking the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth is expected to further spread his image, ideology, and humanistic values throughout the South American country, while contributing to promoting people-to-people exchanges, strengthening mutual understanding, and deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Brazil.
