Beyond equipping younger generations with language skills, the class also plays an important role in nurturing cultural identity, fostering love for their homeland, and strengthening students’ connection with their national roots.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Van Son, Director of the Vietnamese Language Center at Sapa Trade Center, said that every summer, when the school bells of local mainstream schools temporarily fall silent, the sounds of Vietnamese children of Vietnamese origin practicing their first letters and words once again echo throughout Sapa. He described this as a beautiful tradition and a vivid expression of the spirit of “remembering one’s roots and honoring one’s origins.”

Looking ahead to the 2026 summer course, Nguyen Van Son emphasized that the two-month summer period is a “golden phase” for children to fully focus on learning their heritage language.

“Our biggest goal is that, by the end of the course, students will not only be able to recognize Vietnamese letters but also confidently read, speak, and write their mother tongue,” he said. “To ensure teaching quality and measure students’ actual progress, they will take a comprehensive assessment test at the end of the course. This is not a source of pressure, but rather a milestone for students to proudly reflect on their own achievements and for parents to witness their children’s growth.”

To achieve these goals, the center has introduced a scientific and practical teaching approach. Each three-hour lesson is divided into two parts: one hour dedicated entirely to conversation, interaction, and Vietnamese speaking practice, while the remaining two hours focus on in-depth instruction in grammar structures and writing skills.

This balanced combination enables students to develop a solid language foundation while becoming more natural and confident in everyday Vietnamese communication.

Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Standing Member of the Community Affairs Committee under the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, emphasized that education at Sapa Trade Center serves as a launching pad and a formal pedagogical foundation that helps children approach and develop their Vietnamese language skills.

“However, the family is truly the ‘best learning environment’ and the cradle that determines the success or failure of this journey. Whether Vietnamese remains a living part of children’s identity and flows naturally through their lives largely depends on parents’ guidance, support, and daily interactions at home,” he said.

He noted that the center has established a rich and valuable Vietnamese-language library and called on parents to consider it a meaningful gift of knowledge, actively borrowing books to read with their children and guiding them in their learning process every day.

“Let’s turn our homes into spaces where the Vietnamese language is cherished, so that the close cooperation between schools and families can become the greatest source of strength to help children achieve their goals,” he added

Le Hong Nhung, Head of the Education Committee of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic, affirmed that learning Vietnamese for children born and raised in the Czech Republic is not merely about acquiring a language. It is also about building memories, shaping cultural identity, and nurturing a sense of connection with their ancestral homeland.

The Education Committee has continuously updated and renewed its teaching methods, closely following the latest Vietnamese-language curriculum issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, while combining it with bilingual textbooks compiled by author Nguyen Quyet Tien.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony, Le Hong Nhung also announced that the “Honoring the Vietnamese Language 2026” competition is expected to take place on September 19. The event will serve as a large-scale platform for second- and third-generation Vietnamese youth to express their love for their heritage through various activities, including dancing, painting, storytelling, public speaking, singing, and performances featuring traditional musical instruments, all centered around themes of homeland and national culture.
