Strengthen Solidarity and Friendship Between Vietnam and Venezuela

At the invitation of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), a delegation of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association led by Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Dong Huy Cuong visited, worked with and witnessed the National Assembly and Local Council elections in Venezuela from May 24 to 29.

During their visit in Venezuela, the delegation attended programs organized by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela; worked with and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and the Simon Bolivar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples (ISB); paid a courtesy call to Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto; met and exchanged views with the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group; had friendly meetings with members of the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship House, former Caracas guerrillas and people who love Vietnam; worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela.

The delegation also visited the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Caracas, attended a memorial service, and signed the condolence book for former President Tran Duc Luong, organized by the Vietnamese Embassy. Additionally, they visited the Simon Bolivar Museum and the tomb of the late President Hugo Chavez.

At the meetings and working sessions, Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto, President of the Venezuela - Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Saul Antonio Ortega Campos, President of the ISB Rosa Eekhout Gómez, Deputy Foreign Minister Tatiana Pugh Morenowarmly welcomed and highly appreciated the delegation's visit, which demonstrated the friendship, solidarity and close cooperation between the two peoples. They applauded the remarkable achievements of the Vietnamese people in their historic struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as in the ongoing process of national construction and development. Vietnam has emerged as a shining example of progress, a model of development, and a nation with an increasingly prominent international role and standing. They expressed their confidence that Vietnam will successfully realize the national development goals set forth by the Party and State.

Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto affirmed that despite the numerous challenges and external pressures facing the Bolivarian Revolution, Venezuela has drawn valuable lessons from adversity, aspiring to develop as Vietnam has. He emphasized that Vietnam stands as a shining example, having overcome immense difficulties, war devastation, and embargoes, to emerge as a nation with a significant regional and global presence. The Minister expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across all fields. He noted that the President and Venezuelan leaders highly value cooperation with VUFO and ISB. Furthermore, he affirmed that while the two countries have built strong political ties, organizations like VUFO and ISB play a crucial role in fostering people-to-people diplomacy. He encouraged them to actively promote connections between businesses, scholars, and students, enhancing exchanges between the two nations.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of the VUFO-ISB Memorandum of Understanding, Deputy Foreign Minister Tatiana Pugh Moreno and ISB President Rosa Eekhout Gómez affirmed that this agreement not only establishes a crucial foundation for cooperation between VUFO and ISB but also represents significant progress in strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries. Deputy Foreign Minister Tatiana Pugh Moreno emphasized her commitment to facilitating effective collaboration between ISB and VUFO in her role.

ISB President Rosa Eekhout expressed her delight that the cooperation agreement between ISB and VUFO had become a reality. She highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed at a particularly meaningful time for both nations—coinciding with Vietnam's celebrations of the 80th anniversary of National Day, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth, and Venezuela's successful elections of the National Assembly and Local Councils, marked by the resounding victory of the PSUV Party. She expressed her confidence that the collaboration between VUFO and ISB would thrive, further strengthening Vietnam-Venezuela relations.

Dong Huy Cuong, Vice President of VUFO and head of the delegation, expressed his deep appreciation for the significant achievements of the Venezuelan people and extended his congratulations on the success and victory of the PSUV in the National Assembly and Local Council elections. He provided an overview of Vietnam’s current situation and sincerely thanked the Venezuelan leadership and people for their unwavering support, both during Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and reunification and in its ongoing efforts in national construction and defense. He emphasized that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Venezuela is built on a strong foundation, shaped by shared values and mutual understanding, and expressed confidence that this relationship will continue to thrive and expand in the future.

Members of the Vietnamese delegation acknowledged the difficulties and challenges facing the Venezuelan people, reaffirming the solidarity and unwavering support of Vietnam's Party, State, and people for Venezuela’s just revolutionary cause, upholding independence, national sovereignty, and socialism. As key institutions of people-to-people diplomacy, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association pledged to strengthen coordination with ISB and the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship House. Their collective efforts will focus on fostering solidarity, deepening traditional friendship, and enhancing multifaceted cooperation between the people of both nations. Together, they aspire to advance the shared goal of peace, stability, and a life of independence, freedom, and happiness for their peoples.
