Through people-to-people diplomacy, messages of reconciliation have been conveyed and acknowledged by the leaders of both countries. It was the efforts of people-to-people diplomacy, with the Viet Nam-USA Society at its core, through various channels connecting American organizations and individuals who supported normalization and the establishment of relations with Viet Nam, that served as a driving force leading to the normalization of relations and the establishment of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and the United States on July 12, 1995.

On October 28 in Hanoi, the Vietnam-US Society under the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) held a rountable entitled “Vietnam-US People-to-People Relations: 30 Years of Diplomatic Relations and Beyond.” The event brought together Vietnamese diplomats, scholars, and American friends and partners to review the achievements of Vietnam-US people-to-people cooperation over the past three decades and to exchange views on future directions.

On October 16 at Ho Guom Opera House (Hanoi), the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-USA Society held a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam-America Friendship Association (October 17, 1945 - October 17, 2025). The event offered an opportunity to look back on eight decades of nurturing friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation between the peoples of the two nations, while reaffirming the vital role of people-to-people diplomacy in Vietnam-US relations.
