Term 2023-2028: Vietnam Trade Union Strives to Reach 15 Million Union Members

Speaking at the forum, Nguyen Dinh Khang, president of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, affirmed that developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions is determined to be a breakthrough in the 2023-2028 term.

According to the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, in the context of integration with new challenges, grassroots trade union officials need to be good at economics, proficient in management, and knowledgeable about wages to be able to negotiate, agree, and sign a collective labor agreement with the employer.

President Nguyen Dinh Khang also stated that the goal of the Vietnam Trade Union at the end of the 2023-2028 term is to bring the number of trade union members in the country to 15 million people.

The representative of PetroVietnam’s Trade Union suggested that the grassroots trade union needs to be flexible in developing union members and propaganda so that union members feel secure with the Union organization.

The development of union members must be associated with updating information on the management system, and diversifying activities to care for union members' benefits.

According to the Lang Son Provincial Labor Confederation, the Union needs regular coordination with local party organizations, attracting the participation of authorities and employers in the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions.

The Union has a strong enough support policy to carry out the work of developing union members and establishing trade unions at businesses outside the State sector.
