When the sun is about to hide behind the mountain, thousands of storks returned to their nest after a day of foraging.
For a decade now, the people of Trai Le village have regarded Bu swamp as a sacred place. They consider themselves as protectors of the storks from hunters.

Than Van Luong (55 years old, a villager) recalled, at the end of 1999, Bu swamp still remain wild and very few people lived around there.
In one afternoon, villagers heard the sound of more than 100 birds flying on the surface of the swamp. In the evening, the storks perched upon bamboo tops and flew away in the morning.

At first, villagers thought that the stork flock just temporarily resided in Bu swamp during its migration season. However, as years passed, the living habits of the storks keep unchanged. They go for foraging in the morning and return to the swamp in the evening. Villagers gradually consider the storks as true “residents” of Trai Le.
Storks reside in Bu swamp from August to next April. During breeding season, they fly to an unknow place, then return with an increasing number.

In Trai Le, villagers consider the storks as a gift of nature, something that needs to be preserved. They banned the hunting of the storks. Anyone who was found hunting the stork will be hated by the whole villagers.
