Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Ly Duc Trung said tree planting was among the essential activities to mark the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and Vietnam. In 2023, the two countries will accelerate coordinated activities for bilateral development and people-to-people connections.
Assdod’s Deputy Mayor Eli Nacht said diplomatic relations would be meaningless if there were no practical activities among agencies, businesses, and people to boost bilateral relations and the understanding between two peoples. Planting trees is included in those practical activities, he stressed.
According to Alexander Oberfeld, Councilor of Asdod City, who came up with the idea to hold the planting event, Vietnam and Israel's relations have yet to be on par with the two countries' potential.
As one of the largest and most developed cities in Israel, Asdod will be an ideal starting point to take the relationship between the two countries to new heights. Meanwhile, Vietnam has great potential for stronger coordination in trade, healthcare, and education, he said.
