Thai Huu Lieu, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Foreign Affairs, stated, “From February 24, staff at the NPA and PeaceTrees Vietnam projects will return to work. At this stage, we can only confirm that these projects have resumed operations. The specific timelines will be announced later by the organizations as they are still in the evaluation process.”

According to Thai Huu Lieu, the NPA project employs approximately 250 workers, while PeaceTrees Vietnam has a team of over 200. The resumption of these initiatives after a temporary suspension brings significant relief to workers and local authorities.

Over the years, mine clearance programs funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by foreign non-governmental organizations have played a pivotal role in reducing the risk of unexploded ordnance, releasing land for livelihood opportunities, and enhancing community safety across Quang Tri province.

Highlighting the significance of these programs, on February 19, Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Steering Committee for War Consequences Remediation in Quang Tri province, sent a letter to Marc E. Knapper, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam. In the letter, he urged the Ambassador and his colleagues at the U.S. Embassy to report to and propose that the U.S. Department of State consider either exempting or reducing the suspension period of international aid policies. Alternatively, he suggested that the Department of State conduct a review and assessment while allowing the programs and projects to continue their operations.

Nam emphasized that sustaining funding for these initiatives not only aids Quang Tri province in addressing the aftermath of war but also plays a vital role in ensuring community safety and fostering sustainable socio-economic development.
