USAID Supports Disabled in Quang Nam

Two USAID awards will support persons with disabilities in Quang Nam province.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced s new award to support persons with disabilities in Quang Nam province in an online ceremony on Dec. 22.

The new award is part of the project "Strengthening opportunities and empowering people with disabilities phase II" in Quang Nam, funded by USAID through the Community Development Institute (ACDC).

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to be part of the project.

The project will focus on standardizing and improving policies for people with disabilities; facilitating the local capacity to implement policies on incentives.

The results-oriented project includes enhanced policy implementation standards and guidelines.

The policy on independent living, disability inclusion and non-discrimination against people with disabilities will be improved in the target provinces.

At the same time, the policy capacity of agencies and departments (at central and provincial levels) will be strengthened. Selected public health and other social services for people with disabilities will be increased.

The project site is in Quang Nam province (excluding 14 border communes in Tay Giang and Nam Giang districts). The implementation period is from November 2021 to September 2024 with a total cost of more than VND4.6 billion, which is non-refundable aid of USAID.

Over last 30 years, the U.S. Government has contributed US$126 million in assistance to persons with disabilities in Vietnam.

USAID has a robust portfolio of activities working across eight provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange (Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, and Kon Tum), covering a variety of services for persons with disabilities.

Earlier, in September, USAID also funded nearly US$ 9 million to two projects in support of people with disabilities in Quang Tri province.

The project on improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange has funding of over US$6.9 million while the project on strengthening opportunities and enhancing the position of people with disabilities has funding of US$2 million.
