USD 100,000 donated to disaster victims in Japan
The deadly flooding in Japan began on July 5 and was caused by unprecedented heavy rain at the end of June, worsened by Typhoon Prapiroon, which made landfall on July 3.
(VNF) - Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pham Sao Mai, on July 19 presented donation cash worth USD 100,000 to Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, Umeda Kunio. The donated cash aims to support victims of the recent historic flooding in Japan.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese diplomat also extended his words of condolences to the victims of the disaster.
Umeda Kunio, for his part, on behelf of the Japanese people, expressed his thankfulness to the government and people of Vietnam for standing by Japanese people during the difficult time, affirming he would try his best to promptly transfer the cash to the needy in his home country.
Devastating floods and landslides have killed 200 people in the country’s worst weather disaster in 36 years. Dozens of people remain missing and more than 200,000 households are without water.
The worst affected areas are said to be Hiroshima, Kyoto, Okayama and Ehime. Although dry and hot weather is expected to prevail in the coming days, survivors are at risk from heat-related illnesses and a lack of clean water./.
