On July 13, the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) announced that the French President had decided to promote Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc to the Legion of Honor (Légion d'honneur).
According to the decree signed on July 11, on the occasion of France's National Day, the French State awarded the Legion of Honor at the Officer rank, one of the high ranks of the order, to both scientists.

Previously, Professor Tran Thanh Van was awarded the Knight (Chevalier) rank of the Legion of Honor on February 23, 2000, while Professor Le Kim Ngoc received this order on September 6, 2016, in Ho Chi Minh City, presented directly by French President François Hollande during his state visit to Vietnam.
On his personal social media account, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet shared the good news with the awardees, emphasizing that this recognition is well-deserved. It is for two great French scientists of Vietnamese origin – those who have dedicated decades to helping Vietnamese children, strengthening relations between the two countries, and supporting the international integration of Vietnamese scientists.
For many years, Professor Tran Thanh Van's name has been associated with four prominent activities: the Rencontres du Vietnam organization, ICISE, the Vallet Educational Scholarship, and SOS Children's Villages. These initiatives combine science, education, and humanitarian efforts, aiming at sustainable development for Vietnam's young generation.
Professor Tran Thanh Van (born in Dong Hoi, former Quang Binh, now Quang Tri province) is a world-renowned physicist. He was awarded the Tate Medal by the American Physical Society in 2012, being one of only three Asians to receive this prestigious award. He is the founder of the ICISE, which began operations in 2013. ICISE's goal is to connect the international scientific community and support Vietnamese students and young researchers to integrate into the global knowledge flow. ICISE has organized nearly 200 international scientific conferences and 45 specialized schools, attracting about 12,000 scientists from over 40 countries and territories.
Meanwhile, Professor Le Kim Ngoc was the first to propose the concept of "thin cell layer" (TCL) – a revolutionary invention in the field of plant biotechnology. TCL is widely applied in breeding, pure line selection, and gene transfer technology to create new crop varieties. She is also the President of the Association for Helping Vietnamese Children in France, contributing to the construction of SOS children's villages in Da Lat, Dong Hoi, and the Thuy Xuan Child Protection Center (Hue). She is also a key collaborator with Professor Tran Thanh Van in founding the Rencontres du Vietnam organization and building ICISE.
