Vietnam And Belarus Strives to Restore Trade Turnover

At a meeting with Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou on November 14, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam and Belarus have a traditional friendship and good multifaceted cooperation. Relations between the two sides continued to develop in recent times, achieving positive results in many fields.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always treasures its relationship with Belarus and wishes to maintain, expand, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation with Belarus.
In the coming time, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides continue to maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, and people-to-people exchange.
In particular, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides promote economic and trade cooperation and effectively implement the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The two countries strive to restore trade turnover to the level before the Covid-19 pandemic, with both sides increasing imports of strong products.
Along with that, the two sides need to strengthen cultural and tourism exchange activities and effectively implement the agreement on cooperation in education and student exchange.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam supports the development of cooperation with Belarus in areas where the two sides have strengths, based on balancing each other's interests such as agriculture, aviation, science, and technology.
The Prime Minister also thanked Belarus for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community studying, residing, and doing business in Belarus.
The Prime Minister hopes that the Belarusian Government will continue to support and pay more attention to the Vietnamese community in the country.
For his part, the Belarusian Ambassador affirmed that Belarus always values and wants to promote relations with Vietnam in all fields, for the benefit of the two peoples.
| Regarding economic-trade cooperation, the total bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Belarus in 2022 reached US$113.9 million (down 40.4% compared to 2021), of which, exports from Vietnam to Belarus reached US$21 million (down 2.9%), imports from Belarus to Vietnam reached US$92.9 million (down 45.2%). In the first quarter of 2023, import-export turnover between the two countries reached US$18.2 million, down 55.9% compared to the same period in 2022, of which exports reached US$5.34 million (up 83.8%), imports reached US$12.8 million (down 66.5%). The main agricultural products Vietnam exports to Belarus include seafood, rice, cassava, cashew nuts, and tea. Other products are also being promoted for export such as tropical fruits, vegetables, and coffee. In contrast, Vietnam imports from Belarus mainly fertilizer. |
