Vietnam and Egypt Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Defense Cooperation

According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), on August 4, at the Egyptian Ministry of Defense headquarters in Cairo, General Phan Van Giang, Vietnam’s Minister of National Defense, held talks with General Abdel Mageed Saqr, Egypt’s Minister of Defense.
General Abdel Mageed Saqr welcomed General Phan Van Giang, expressed admiration for and congratulated Vietnam on its recent development achievements, and appreciated Vietnam’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region and around the world.
He also stressed the importance of defense cooperation as part of the overall relationship between the two countries and affirmed that Egypt wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in this area.

According to Nhan Dan newspaper, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that although Vietnam and Egypt are geographically distant, they have always maintained a traditional and friendly relationship, both during the struggle for national independence in the past and in the current period of national construction and development. The state visit of President Luong Cuong once again affirms Vietnam’s appreciation for and desire to promote cooperative relations with Egypt. General Phan Van Giang emphasized that within the overall positive bilateral relationship, defense cooperation is an area that receives close attention from senior leaders on both sides and holds significant potential for development.
Based on General Phan Van Giang’s proposals, the two sides agreed to continue promoting and strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, prioritizing areas such as: promoting delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones, to enhance mutual understanding and trust and explore areas of cooperation; strengthening cooperation in training; prioritizing collaboration in United Nations peacekeeping operations; promoting cooperation in defense industry and military trade; and exploring potential cooperation in other promising areas.
Both Ministers expressed confidence that, with a solid foundation and the important outcomes achieved during this visit, bilateral defense cooperation will make significant progress in the coming period and become one of the key pillars of the Vietnam-Egypt relations, making a positive contribution to peace, stability, and development in the region and globally.

Sharing views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and development-oriented foreign policy, with diversification and multilateralization of international relations. Vietnam wishes to be a friend and reliable partner of all countries and international organizations, cooperating for peace, development, and prosperity in the region and the world. The country remains steadfast in resolving all disputes and disagreements through peaceful means based on international law.
The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense welcomes Egyptian defense delegations to visit and work in Vietnam and hopes both sides will enhance engagement at multilateral events. It also proposed that the two countries consider establishing permanent Defense Attaché Offices in each other's capitals.
Following the meeting, the Ministries of National Defense of Vietnam and Egypt signed a Letter of Intent to promote defense cooperation.
