Vietnam and India agreed to strengthen cooperation in potential fields such as information technology, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture and innovation.

Implementing the agreement between the two foreign ministries, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung and Indian Foreign Service Officer Riva Ganguly Das co-chaired the 11th political consultation session and the 8th strategic dialogue online, on November 12.

At the meetings, the two sides had open discussions on bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two sides agreed that the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was developing well in many fields, especially politics, defense-security, and economy-trade.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung asked India to cooperate in promoting the exchange of high-level visits and organizing meaningful and solemn commemorative activities. This is to improve the understanding of the people of the two countries about Vietnam-India relations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Indian Foreign Service Officer Riva Ganguly Das emphasized the longstanding and close relationship between the two nations. He was pleased to see that the bilateral trade turnover remained at a positive level, reaching US$10.68 billion in 2020 and nearly US$11 billion in the first 10 months of 2021.

Vietnam and India agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, health, agriculture, culture, and constantly expand cooperation in economy, trade, and investment.

The two countries also strengthen cooperation in fields with great potential such as information technology, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, and innovation.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung thanked India for supporting medical equipment for Vietnam during the recent pandemic outbreak and suggested that India continue to support Covid-19 vaccines and drugs in the near future.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen mutual support at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations, as well as within the ASEAN-India framework.

India affirmed that it continues to attach importance to the Ganges-Mekong River cooperation, and is ready to consider implementing a trilateral cooperation model between India and Vietnam and a development partner.

Vietnam and India affirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and security, peacefully settling disputes based on international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
