Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Continues to “Nurture Friendship” for 47 Cambodian Students

According to a decision announced at the ceremony by the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, 47 Cambodian students studying at universities in northern Vietnam will be sponsored by organizations, individuals, and association members from December 2025 until the completion of their academic programs.

Speaking at the event, Le Van Tuy, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, emphasized that sponsoring Cambodian students studying in Vietnam is an initiative of profound humanistic significance, vividly reflecting the traditional friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia.

Le Van Tuy noted that Vietnam-Cambodia relations have been forged through the shared history of the two nations in their struggles for independence and national development. Within this relationship, cultural and social bonds fostered through education and training have always served as a durable bridge connecting present and future generations. Many generations of Cambodian officials and intellectuals have grown and matured through educational programs supported wholeheartedly by Vietnam, and today’s Cambodian students continue to carry forward that proud tradition.

Welcoming the Cambodian students to their “second shared home,” Le Van Tuy affirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association would provide them with attentive care and favorable conditions for study, personal development, and integration into Vietnam’s cultural environment and customs.

“Each sponsoring organization, collective, and family is not only a source of moral support but also a companion accompanying the students throughout their journey of learning and growth,” Le Van Tuy emphasized.

He expressed his confidence that the students’ time studying in Vietnam would offer valuable opportunities to acquire knowledge, build resilience, explore cultural values, and foster meaningful bonds. Upon returning home, he noted, they would make practical contributions to Cambodia’s development while continuing to nurture the traditional Vietnam-Cambodia friendship.

On this occasion, Le Van Tuy extended his sincere thanks to ministries, agencies, educational and training institutions, teachers, as well as organizations and individual association members who voluntarily took on the sponsorship of Cambodian students. He affirmed that these collective efforts form a crucial foundation for strengthening the two countries' good-neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term, sustainable relations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bun Heng, Counsellor of the Embassy of Cambodia in Vietnam, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Central Committee of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association for launching the “Nurturing Friendship” program and welcoming Cambodian students studying in Vietnam as sponsored children. He noted that the annual organization of the sponsorship handover ceremony reflects the deep care, affection, and trust that Vietnamese organizations and individuals place in Cambodian students.

Bun Heng encouraged the sponsored students to respect, care for, and heed the guidance of their foster parents as they would their own parents; to continually cultivate moral values, strengthen themselves through study and training, preserve their positive cultural identity, and become citizens who contribute meaningfully to Cambodian society and the nation. He affirmed that the dedication, responsibility, and affection shown by sponsoring families and organizations hold great significance not only for each student but also for Cambodia’s human resource development over many years.

He also expressed his profound appreciation to the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam for their consistent support for Cambodia in the past and at present, particularly in the field of human resource training. These efforts, he said, have contributed to strengthening the two countries’ good-neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and stable, long-term relations.

Ul Vuthy, a second-year student majoring in Auditing at the National Economics University, expressed his deep gratitude to the organizations and individuals of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association for opening their arms to sponsor Cambodian students, helping ease their homesickness while studying far from home. He affirmed that upon returning to Cambodia, the students would bring back not only knowledge and academic qualifications, but also cherished memories and warm feelings for the land and people of Vietnam-continuing to share the story of Vietnam-Cambodia friendship with future generations.

Representing the organizations and individuals sponsoring Cambodian students in 2025, Tran Nam Duong recalled that 46 years ago, many members of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association were volunteer soldiers who helped the Cambodian people escape the genocidal regime. Today, carrying forward that tradition through the “Nurturing Friendship” program, association members continue to warmly welcome Cambodian students studying in Hanoi. He encouraged the students to strive in their studies and self-development so that they may one day return to serve their homeland and country.
