The 50-year-old male patient is father of a worker in Son Loi commune, Binh Xuyen district, northern Vinh Phuc province, who had been tested positive for the virus after coming back home from a training course in China’s Wuhan city.
The eight Vietnamese people were sent to Wuhan for training by Nihon Plast Co Ltd of Japan and returned to Vietnam on China Southern Airlines fight CZ8315 on January 17.
He is among those who had close contact with the infected worker’s home during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival and has been closely monitored since then by the provincial disease control centre.
This has brought the total number of COVID-19 infection cases in Vietnam to 16, including 11 from Vinh Phuc.
On the same day, MoH has sent materials and a permanent working team to Vinh Phuc to help with the fight against the acute respiratory disease caused by COVID-19.
Vinh Phuc is one of the first localities in the country to confirm cases.
The province has established a steering committee for epidemic prevention and control, and suspended activities with large crowds. It has also shut down schools until February 22.
A public awareness campaign has been launched to encourage people to regularly wash their hands and wear medical masks, while schools, hospitals, households and residential areas are being disinfected.
From February 13, the province will zone off and quarantine affected areas in Son Loi commune, Binh Xuyen district, for 20 days.
Eight stations will be set up on roads to and from Son Loi commune to prevent the virus from spreading.
So far, Vietnam has successfully cured seven COVID-19 patients. Chinese patient Li Ding, 66, one of the two first COVID-19 patients in Vietnam, was discharged from Cho Ray hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on February 12 after three weeks of treatment./.
