Vietnam Earns Top Prizes at the Asian Art Schools Theater Festival 2024

The announcement stated that this was the first time the Vietnamese troupe attended the Asian Art Schools Theater Festival (ATEC).

The troupe includes performers from the Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. They performed the play "Like Falling Raindrops" with inspiration and materials from traditional Vietnamese art called "Chèo," imbued with contemporary theater.
The play was directed by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thi - Principal of Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema, and Dr. Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai - Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. The actors were lecturers and students from the Department of Folk Theater of the university.

The story revolves around three main characters: Thi Mau, Thi Kinh, and Xuy Van. All three characters are young, passionate women, bound by social norms and family pressures.
“Like Falling Raindrops” captivated the audiences with a multi-dimensional performance space, combining traditional chèo and contemporary theatrical elements. It creates a unique interactive experience for the audience, with a profound message of freedom, choice, and empowerment.
The play earns high prizes for highlighting many characteristics of chèo such as the narrative with subtle interaction with the audience or music. Also, it focuses on dancing, singing, music, lighting, and performance techniques, creating a multi-disciplined performance.
