Vietnam Establishes First Peacekeeping Police Unit
Recently, the Office of United Nations Peacekeeping (Ministry of Public Security) has been preparing for the announcement to establish and launch Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1. This is Vietnam's first armed peacekeeping police.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Nam said the United Nations and international friends appreciated the public officers and the Ministry of Public Security deployed an armed police peacekeeping unit.
"According to United Nations regulations, countries will send peacekeeping police to participate in 3 contents including individual officers, special police teams, and armed police teams," Lieutenant Colonel said.
According to him, the mission of Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 is to enhance security for the mission deployment area and the United Nations agencies, provide safety for people, and protect human rights.

"To deploy an armed peacekeeping police unit, it must comply with United Nations standards with strict evaluation criteria," he remarked.

"Even though we face hardships, with the pride of soldiers of the Vietnam People's Police, we are determined to carry out our mission. Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 will try to improve to meet United Nations standards. We will create a friendly image of Vietnam, and be known by many countries for its role in securing peace and safety in the world,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Nam said.
He affirmed that the officers and soldiers in the unit are always loyal to the Party's guidelines, policies, and laws.
"The unit will implement the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and the leadership of the Central Public Security Party Committee to promote the role of a responsible country in the international community. It also furthers the deployment of forces to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations,” he added.
