In her remarks, Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, Head of the Vietnam Permanent Delegation to UNESCO emphasized that Land, Water, and People were integral parts of Vietnam's culture and heritage structure.

"Đất nước", Vietnamese for "country" is compounded by Đất - Land or Earth and Nước - Water.

"The formation of that word originates from typical thinking of an agricultural society. Their community was formed from wet rice cultivation practices, in which water and land are crucial factors to ensure their livelihood," said the ambassador.
