She made the affirmation at a reception in Hanoi on February 18 for Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam Michael Croft.
At the reception, the Vietnamese official noted with pleasure that Vietnam has not reported any new cases of COVID-19 over the past four days, and the outbreak remains under control so that tourists are safe during their time in the country.
She informed the guest about Vietnam’s preparations for receiving a UNESCO certificate honouring the practice of Then of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic people, which was recently added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in mid-December 2019.
She hoped for support and participation of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi for the recognition ceremony, which will take place in September.
She also asserted that Vietnam has exerted every effort to preserve its heritages and culture in line with sustainable tourism development, adding that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have detailed plans and actions to coordinate with UNESCO to safeguard the culture of the country’s ethnic minority groups.
For his part, the UNESCO official praised Vietnam’s efforts in preserving cultures according to UNESCO’s Cultural Conventions.
He affirmed that UNESCO and its office in Hanoi are willing to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in implementing tasks, particularly in promoting and preserving heritages according to the convention that Vietnam follows; developing sustainable tourism in association with the national targets, and developing creative and cultural industries./.
