Vietnam-Italy Space Technology Exhibition Launched in Hanoi

On December 12, the Italian Embassy in Hanoi coordinated with the Vietnam Space Center (VNSC) of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) to launch the exhibition "Space Technology and Applications Vietnam-Italy: Looking Beyond."

The opening ceremony was attended by Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro; Prof. Le Truong Giang, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; and Dr. Pham Anh Tuan General Director of Vietnam Space Center.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Le Truong Giang emphasized that the Government of Vietnam has issued a strategy for the development and application of space science and technology until 2030, and identified the promotion of international cooperation to play an important role in this strategy.

Italy is one of the few countries with a leading research force in various aspects of the field of space, namely satellites, Earth observation satellite launches, navigation, and life exploration in space.

Prof. Le Truong Giang expressed his hope that through the exhibition, scientists of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular and of Vietnam in general will set up more opportunities for cooperation with Italian partners in space science and technology to discover and apply space technology to serve the socio-economic goals and sustainable development of the two countries.

According to Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro, the exhibition is among the activities towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy (23/3/1973-23/3/2023). It is also to celebrate the National Space Day of Italy (on December 16), organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in many countries around the world, including Vietnam.

The National Space Day of Italy aims at raising awareness of the importance of space activities and space technology in many areas such as environment, meteorology, innovation and defense-security.

The exhibition displays 23 high-resolution images of the Earth taken by Italy's COSMO-SkyMed satellite system and processed by Telespazio/e-GEOS, including 2 images of Hanoi and the Mekong Delta and 9 panels illustrated by the Vietnam Space Center with the application of satellite images in remote detection, prevention and control of disasters in Vietnam.

Ambassador Antonio Alessandro affirmed that Italy is always willing to support and cooperate with Vietnam in the field of space technology and applications, especially at a time when Vietnam is conducting activities in the framework of the Strategy for the development and application of space science and technology to 2030.

The exhibition is open to the public from December 12-23.
