| Face masks from the Nagasaki chapter of the Vietnam- Japan Friendship Association under the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association arrived at Nagasaki Prefecture. |
Recently, the Nagasaki chapter of the Vietnam- Japan Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City had presented 4,050 face masks to Nagasaki Prefecture upon hearing of the local occurrence of new COVID-19 infections, mainly from the Italian cruise ship Costa Atlantica.
The chapter consists of individuals who have studied and worked in Nagasaki. Although this is a small donation, this action has shown the heart and tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” of the Vietnamese people.
On May 11, those masks were arrived in Nagasaki, and the provincial representatives also held a ceremony at Nagasaki Prefectural Office, in thanks to the hearts of the chapter.
The Costa Atlantica now hosts one of Japan’s biggest clusters of the coronavirus, which infected one-fourth of the more than 600 people then on board.
The 86,000-tonne Italian-flagged Costa Atlantica carried no passengers when it docked for maintenance in Nagasaki. Of the initial 623 crew on the ship, 149 tested positive.
That makes it one of Japan’s biggest clusters, according to Reuters calculations based on Oxford University data.
The President of the Japan – Vietnam Friendship Association's chapter in Nagasaki expressed his gratitude, saying this timely support from the Nagasaki chapter of the Vietnam- Japan Friendship Association in HCM City shows the spirit of sharing and solidarity with Nagasaki in the fight against COVID-19.
Last month, Yen Bai province also has donated 20,000 medical masks to Mimasaka city, Okayama province.
Not only Japan, in recent months, Vietnam's government and people has donated many masks and medical supplies to a number of countries, which are heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
