The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently announced that after two years of implementation to improve the patent appraisal process of the Intellectual Property Office (Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam), the technical cooperation project "Improving the capacity to process industrial property applications at the National Office of Intellectual Property" has gained many achievements. This is a cooperative project between the Vietnam National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) and JICA to support the amendment and supplementation of patent appraisal regulations and prepare documents on quality management for patent appraisal activities.

The project also includes training sessions for patent examiners, contributing to improving the capacity of the Vietnamese intellectual property community. Also, these results are expected to bring benefits to foreign companies, including potential Japanese investors to Vietnam.

According to JICA, the number of patent applications in Vietnam has increased over the years. To properly protect patent rights, the project has been approved to improve the patent appraisal capacity of the National Office of Intellectual Property in Vietnam.

In particular, the protection of intellectual property rights is prioritized in the Japan - Vietnam Joint Initiative and the Japan - Vietnam Economic Partnership Agreement (JVEPA). JICA has cooperated with Vietnam in the field of intellectual property for more than 20 years and will continue to contribute to promoting economic growth as well as enhancing Vietnam's international competitiveness.
