According to Nhan Dan newspaper, during the meeting, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that despite the geographical distance, Vietnam and Morocco share many historical similarities, including a shared aspiration for independence, freedom, and resistance against colonialism. During the resistance war, many Moroccan soldiers left their posts to join Vietnam’s struggle and remained in the country after the war to help rebuild it. Today, the bilateral relationship continues to be strengthened on the foundation of shared history, through political and economic cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges. Vietnam and Morocco are looking ahead to the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

According to the NA Chairman, Morocco is currently Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in North Africa. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover reached over USD 300 million. In just the first five months of 2025, this figure has already exceeded USD 320 million, demonstrating significant untapped potential for economic cooperation. Chairman Tran Thanh Man noted that current economic and trade cooperation remains modest relative to its potential and should be vigorously promoted.

He highly appreciated the role of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and its President, Mustapha El Ktiri, in supporting the Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco to organize diplomatic activities and connect with the Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin community in the host country. He especially acknowledged the initiative to establish the “Vietnam Gate” in Morocco and the “Morocco Gate” in Vietnam, two cultural landmarks symbolizing people-to-people ties between the two nations, helping future generations remember their roots.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association and the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association promptly begin discussions to sign the MoU, with the goal of concretizing cooperation activities in the fields of people-to-people diplomacy, culture, education, trade, and investment.

Mustapha El Ktiri, President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, highly appreciated the visit of the high-level Vietnamese delegation and expressed his agreement with the proposals put forward by NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man. Since its establishment in 2017, the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association has worked in coordination with the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association to carry out various meaningful activities that have contributed to strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries.

He expressed his hope that, in the time ahead, the two sides would further enhance exchanges and cooperation in preparation for the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. He noted that many Moroccan scholars have collected documents and published research on Vietnam-Morocco relations, especially during the period of Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation. In his current role, he affirmed his commitment to continue working closely with relevant Vietnamese agencies to strengthen bilateral cooperation across all fields.
