King Abdullah II of Jordan to pay official visit to Vietnam

King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan will pay an official visit to Vietnam on November 12 - 13, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The invitation has been extended by President Luong Cuong of Vietnam, the ministry said in its recently issued press communique.

Vietnam and Jordan established diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980. Currently, Jordan’s Embassy in Singapore is accredited to Vietnam, while Vietnam’s Embassy in the United Arab Emirates concurrently covers Jordan.

The two countries have maintained high-level delegation exchanges over the years. Bilateral cooperation in trade and investment has also grown steadily. In 2024, two-way trade reached US$188.14 million, with Vietnamese exports valued at US$180.53 million. Vietnam’s key export items are agricultural and aquatic products, electronic goods and components, textiles, chemicals, wood, plastics, and equipment. Its imports from Jordan include textiles, fertilizers, and chemical products.

As of September 2025, Jordan had five active investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of about US$1 million, ranking 108th out of 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Vietnam has yet to invest in Jordan.

Although the two countries have not yet established a Political Consultation Mechanism or Joint Committee, they continue to coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums.

Vietnam and Jordan have signed several important cooperation agreements, including the air transport agreement (1994) and the agreement on economic and trade cooperation (1997), cited VOV.

The Kingdom of Jordan, with its capital in Amman, celebrates National Day on May 25, marking its declaration of independence in 1946. Situated in southeastern Mediterranean, Jordan borders Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the southeast, and Israel to the west, covering an area of 89,342 square kilometers.

Jordan has a desert climate, characterised by hot, dusty summers with temperatures in plateaus and valleys reaching up to 49°C, and cold, dry winters, where temperatures can drop to 7°C and snow occasionally falls. The rainy season lasts from February to April, with average rainfall ranging from 200–600 mm.

As of 2024, Jordan’s population stood at about 11.44 million, the majority being Arabs, including 69.3% Jordanians, 13.3% Syrians, 6.7% Palestinians, 6.7% Egyptians, and 1.4% Iraqis. Arabic is the official language, while English is widely used in communication and business.

According to the IMF, Jordan’s GDP in 2024 was US$53.43 billion, with a per capita GDP of US$4,690.

Islam is the predominant religion, practiced by 97.1% of the population, mostly Sunni Muslims. Jordan is divided into 12 provinces, and the cabinet is appointed by the King upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Vietnam to be among countries with highest growth in 2025: Press conference

Many international organizations have continued to provide positive and optimistic assessments of Vietnam’s economic situation, forecasting that in 2025 Vietnam will be one of the countries with the highest growth in the region and the world, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son told the Government’s regular press conference on November 8.

According to the minister, the macroeconomy remains stable; inflation is under control; growth is being promoted; and the major balances of the economy are ensured, with the average consumer price index (CPI) in the first 10 months rising 3.27%.

In the period, the country's total import-export turnover reached over 762.4 billion USD, up 17.4% year-on-year, with a trade surplus of nearly 19.6 billion USD. The agricultural sector remained stable despite storms and floods in many localities; industrial production increased by 9.2%; and total retail sales of goods and revenue from consumer services grew by 9.3%.

In addition, public investment disbursement reached 491 trillion VND (18.6 billion USD), achieving 54.4% of the plan. Total registered FDI capital increased by 15.6% year-on-year, while disbursed FDI capital rose by 8.8%.

Enterprise development continued to show positive momentum, with 266,000 new and reactivated businesses registered in the 10-month period, an increase of 26.5%. The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for October rose to 54.5 points. In addition, the two-tier local administration system generally operated smoothly, and administrative procedure reforms were actively promoted.

Regarding the local socio-economic situation, the official shared that many localities achieved high growth rates. Sixteen localities recorded GRDP growth of 8% or higher in the first nine months, including six with growth exceeding 10%, namely Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Quang Ngai, and Bac Ninh, according to VNA.

He also shared that, while addressing the Government’s regular meeting earlier the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that in the coming period, it is necessary to closely monitor the situation, respond with proactive, timely, flexible, and effective policies; resolutely avoid retreating or being pessimistic in the face of difficulties; not be complacent in favorable conditions; and remain steadfast in pursuing set objectives.

The Government leader also stressed the importance of maintaining macro-economic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring the major balances of the economy to create a solid foundation for rapid and sustainable growth; and at the same time, implement a proactive, flexible, timely, and effective monetary policy, closely and synchronously coordinated with an expansionary fiscal policy and other relevant policies, Son added.

EU, Vietnam strengthen cooperation to transform climate ambitions into concrete actions

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) will organize the Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2025, themed “Shaping Changes, Building Futures,” in Hanoi on November 27.

The event aims to bring together policymakers, business leaders, and innovators to transform climate ambitions into concrete actions, VGP reported.

Details of the forum were announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on November 6. Speaking at the event, EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert remarked: "I may not yet represent the largest investor bloc in Vietnam, but I represent one that invests with purpose. European investment focuses on sectors that truly advance sustainable development – those that matter not only for today's growth but for generations to come.

As demonstrated by EuroCham's Green Business of the Year Awards last week, sustainability is not the domain of large corporations alone. Many SMEs are also growing from green roots, driving innovation for a more sustainable future for all."

He noted that frameworks such as the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the Global Gateway are deepening the alignment between environmental and economic objectives of the EU and Vietnam.

Echoing his view, EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier stated: "As seen at the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels last month, the JETP continues to deliver tangible EU financial commitments for energy transition projects. This was highlighted by the signing of a EUR 430 million JETP financial package between Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son and EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela."

"In a time of global uncertainty, partnerships like the one between the EU and Vietnam are more vital than ever. I am confident that in the years to come, our cooperation will continue to deepen, bringing real benefits to our businesses, our people, and most importantly, our planet," he added.

Focusing on practical dialogue and high-level discussions, GEF 2025 will feature nine conference sessions on Vietnam's sustainability priorities, three interactive workshops co-hosted by European bilateral business associations, one keynote address by a global thought leader in the green economy, and a networking evening to foster long-term partnerships.

Each session aims to connect the EU's Green Deal and Global Gateway vision with Vietnam's development context—turning strategies into solutions that bridge policy with investment, and ambition with implementation.

Typhoon Fung-Wong forecast to move unusually, unlikely to affect Vietnam

Typhoon Fung-Wong, which is heading toward the East Sea, is forecast to move in an unusual trajectory and is unlikely to make direct landfall in Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Fung-Wong is churning across the waters near the Philippines and is projected to enter the East Sea, known internationally as South China Sea, on November 10, becoming the 14th storm to hit the region this year.

At 13.00 P.M. on November 8, the typhoon was packing winds of between 139 – 149km/h near its centre, moving in the west-north-western direction at a speed of approximately 30km/h.

Experts said Fung-Wong is currently moving in very favourable conditions, with sea surface temperatures ranging between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius and low vertical wind shear. As a result, the storm is expected to continue strengthening and may reach super typhoon status by November 9.

However, as it approaches the southeastern waters of Luzon Island in the Philippines, Fung-Wong is likely to encounter less favourable environmental conditions, which could cause its intensity to weaken.

After moving into the East Sea on November 10, the northern branch of the subtropical ridge which acts as the steering flow for the storm’s movement, is expected to weaken in intensity and extend further south of the storm’s centre. This change will cause Fung-Wong to shift its track more toward the north.

As it moves to higher latitudes, the super typhoon will enter the upper-level westerly flow, which is likely to steer it northeastward and eventually out of the East Sea.

According to meteorological experts, tropical cyclones at the end of the storm season typically move westward or even west-southwestward, often making landfall in the south-central provinces of Vietnam. However, Fung-Wong is instead tracking northward and moving away from the region—this is what makes the storm’s movement unusual.

While direct impact on Vietnam is currently considered unlikely, the country should still stay alert for indirect effects, especially on the sea, coastlines and weather in offshore zones, reported VOV.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep on November 8 signed an official dispatch to five ministries in charge of public security, national defence, construction, science and rechnology, and foreign affairs, as well as 13 coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Gia Lai, requesting them to be on full alert and ready to respond to Typhoon Fung-Wong.

Local authorities are asked to notify captains and owners of vessels and boats operating at sea so they can take proactive measures to avoid danger and adjust their production plans accordingly, ensuring the safety of people and property. They are also required to maintain regular communication to enable timely response to any potential emergencies.

Phu Quoc named one of the world’s top trending destinations 2026 by Skyscanner

Skyscanner has officially announced its Trending Destinations 2026 report, with Vietnam’s Phu Quoc ranking second in the global list thanks to an impressive surge in travel searches.

Each year, Skyscanner - one of the world’s largest travel platforms with over 100 million visits per month - analyzes millions of flight, hotel, and car rental searches across more than 30 languages to identify the world’s most remarkable travel trends. Its annual Trending Destinations list is considered a “barometer” reflecting travelers’ interest and the growing appeal of destinations worldwide.

This year, Phu Quoc, the only representative from Vietnam, was honoured in the second place with flight search growth reaching 184 % compared to the previous year.

This sharp increase highlights Phu Quoc’s rising international brand recognition, following a series of new developments and attractive tourism policies. Notably, Phu Quoc remains the only destination in Vietnam offering 30 days of visa-free entry for all international visitors. The island currently operates about 30 international flights per day, with more direct routes connecting from various countries. In the first nine months of 2025 alone, Phu Quoc welcomed over 1.2 million international visitors, surpassing the entire 2024 total of 980,000 arrivals - a new record for the Pearl Island’s tourism industry.

According to Skyscanner, Phu Quoc offers “an idyllic escape close to Singapore.” The platform describes it as a place where travelers can “indulge in Phu Quoc’s world-famous fish sauce and seafood, then unwind on stunning beaches like Bai Kem and Bai Sao, also known as two of the world’s most beautiful beaches.” Skyscanner also wrote: “From the lush mountains of Guiyang to the serene, stunning beaches of Phu Quoc, these places to travel are turning heads and climbing charts.”

This recognition reflects not only the island’s natural beauty but also its expanding entertainment and leisure offerings, which have helped elevate Phu Quoc’s image among both domestic and international travelers.

Priceline analyzed that today’s travelers are no longer looking for vacations limited to sand and water. They want to be part of lively atmospheres, immerse themselves in local culture, and enjoy experiences that are fresh and unexpected.

Phu Quoc today has become known for its world-class and distinctive experiences. It is often called the island of surprises, where visitors will never run out of things to do, especially in the southern part of the island. Highlights include the world’s longest three-cable cable car to Hon Thom Island, the Guinness World Record-holding show Kiss of the Sea, sunset views from the CNN-praised Kiss Bridge, and nightly fireworks over Sunset Town. From November 1, southern Phu Quoc will further expand its attractions with the launch of Sunset Bazaar, a new culinary street featuring international dining brands such as Vietnam’s first Eric Kayser bakery, as well as the upgraded Symphony of the Sea - Season 2, which will feature enhanced lighting, lasers, fireworks, and extreme sports performances by world champion jetski and flyboard artists.

Recognition from major global travel platforms is not only proof of Phu Quoc’s lasting appeal but also affirmation of its growing reputation and elevated position on the world tourism map. Recently, the island has also received a series of prestigious awards, including being named Asia’s Most Beautiful Island and ranked among the world’s top three by Condé Nast Traveler, as well as being listed by Expedia among the four most attractive destinations on the planet.

As the festive season approaches, Phu Quoc is expected to welcome waves of international visitors drawn by its unique mix of tropical nature, entertainment, and global hospitality. The island is gradually surpassing long-established names such as Phuket and Bali to become the new icon of Southeast Asian tourism - a place where every moment opens a journey of tropical discovery, true to Priceline’s definition of the new travel spirit: not just “sand and waves,” but “thrills, stories, and unforgettable memories far beyond the tan lines”.
