Vietnam War Veterans Association Holds Successful 8th National Congress

The 8th National Congress of the Vietnam War Veterans' Association for the 2026-2031 term successfully concluded on the afternoon of June 17 in Hanoi, after completing all agenda items and planned programs.

The Congress discussed and adopted conclusions on the political report and the review report of the 7th Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam War Veterans' Association. Delegates also finalized discussions on amendments to the Association’s Charter, approved the Congress Resolution, and adopted the Action Program for implementing the resolution.

On behalf of the 8th Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam War Veterans' Association, Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong delivered the closing speech. He emphasized that the achievements of the Association during the previous term, as well as the success of the 8th National Congress, were the result of the close leadership and guidance of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and directly the Secretariat, along with Party committees at all levels. He also highlighted the effective coordination and support provided by the Government, provincial and municipal People's Committees, ministries, sectors, and mass organizations from central to local levels. In addition, he acknowledged the sound leadership of the Central Executive Committee of the Association and the dedication, initiative, creativity, solidarity, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by veterans and members nationwide.

The successful Congress serves as a major source of encouragement and motivation for all war veterans and former military personnel across the country. The Congress documents provide important guidance for the Association’s activities and development over the next five years. Following the Congress, all levels of the Association will organize the dissemination and study of the Congress Resolution and related documents, widely communicate the Congress outcomes to members, and promptly develop and implement action plans to translate the resolution into practical activities.

The Congress called on war veterans and former military personnel to respond to its appeal by further promoting the “Exemplary War Veterans” emulation movement in conjunction with studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, ethics, and lifestyle. Members were encouraged to fulfill the goals and targets set by the Congress, contributing to the successful building and firm defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and proving worthy of the trust of the Party, the State, and the people.

The Congress also issued a letter calling on all officials and members of the Vietnam War Veterans' Association to uphold the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” and the tradition of “Loyalty - Solidarity - Exemplarity - Innovation,” strengthen the Association, and strive to accomplish all assigned tasks with excellence.
