On the morning of June 22, at Moc Bai international border gate, representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia received donations from Party Committees and authorities of Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.

Accordingly, the Party Committees and authorities of Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces provided US$ 15,000 and VND 200 million (US$ 8,694) respectively for the Vietnamese Cambodians to support them in fighting against the novel coronavirus.

The aid showed solidarity and affection of the two provinces towards Vietnamese Cambodians, helping them to soon surmount the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Previously, on the afternoon of June 21, representatives of the community support fund handed over 220 mosquito nets and specialized insect repellent solution to representatives of the branch of Kandal Provincial Association to assist 220 Vietnamese-origin households in Kom Pong Chom Lone hamlet in Prek Ton Lop commune, Leuk Duek district, Kandal province.

The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Soc Trang province has coordinated with relevant units and the Khmer - Vietnam Association in Cambodia to organize a ceremony to hand over money to Vietnamese-origin Khmer people in Cambodia to assist them in the Covid-19 fight.

The ceremony took place at Long Binh international border gate in Long Binh town in An Phu district, An Giang province in a cozy atmosphere but still ensured regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control.

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Soc Trang province donated VND 200 million (US$ 8,694) to Vietnamese-origin Khmer people in Cambodia with the hope to help them to overcome difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dung said that although the aid was not large, it was a sign of solidarity and affection of the Party Committees, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and people of Soc Trang province towards Vietnamese Cambodians amid the complex development of Covid-19. He added that Soc Trang province had joined hands with the whole country to realize the dual goal of preventing the pandemic and developing the economy as well as to call for support from organizations and individuals inside and outside the country for the Covid-19 prevention and control fund.

On behalf of Vietnamese-origin Khmer people in Cambodia, Chairman of the Khmer - Vietnam Association in Cambodia Sim Chy expressed his thanks to Soc Trang province for its valuable assistance, adding that the aid would encourage Vietnamese-origin Khmer people and tighten the traditional friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam in general and Soc Trang in particular.

Sim Chy said that with the support of Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities, the association has provided aid including food, hand sanitizer and face masks to more than 6,000 Vietnamese households in Cambodia.

Earlier, on June 17, at Tinh Bien border gate in An Giang, the police and donors of Tinh Bien district also support the Vietnamese-origin community in Takeo province with 10 tons of purple sweet potatoes.

Cambodia on Wednesday reported a record high of 587 new cases, bringing the national caseload to 44,711, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The new infections included 533 local cases and 54 imported cases.

Sixteen more fatalities were confirmed, taking the overall death toll to 475, the statement said, adding that 548 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 39,314.
