The platform can process hundreds of thousands of images within minutes, marking a major milestone in Vinamilk’s digital transformation journey.

As the company with the largest market share in Vietnam’s dairy industry, Vinamilk faced ongoing challenges in managing logistics—ensuring accurate and timely deliveries while reducing lead times. According to internal estimates, the manual process of reviewing delivery photos alone required a large workforce, incurring operating costs exceeding $3 million per year.

Rather than scaling up manpower, Vinamilk boldly turned to artificial intelligence to fully automate the image processing workflow. The new system is capable of handling massive volumes of images with high accuracy while significantly reducing operational costs.

From Operational Challenge to Breakthrough Solution

At Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit—the largest annual cloud computing event in Vietnam with over 1,700 participants—Vinamilk stood out as the only fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company showcasing its digital transformation journey. Many attendees were surprised to see a manufacturing company participating in a technology-centric event to highlight its in-house tech capabilities.

A key feature of Vinamilk’s transformation has been fostering a workplace culture that encourages innovation and experimentation. Employees are empowered to explore and apply new technologies to develop solutions that optimize business operations. With this approach, Vinamilk selected AWS as its core platform, allowing it to take full control of its technology infrastructure and digital strategy.

“Beyond reducing labor costs, Vinamilk’s self-developed automated order coordination system enhances operational efficiency and delivers exceptional scalability,” said Eric Yeo, Country General Manager of AWS Vietnam, during the event. The platform integrates AI-powered sales agent systems and intelligent product recommendation engines to boost order conversion rates and drive revenue growth.

The system is also designed to scale rapidly during major promotional campaigns and dramatically shortens delivery times. During Shopee’s 11.11 Shopping Festival in 2024, the system enabled Vinamilk to effortlessly handle an 18-fold increase in order volume compared to regular days.

Owning Technology to Accelerate Innovation

According to Vinamilk’s 2025 annual report, digital transformation has become a core strategic priority alongside its rebranding efforts. The company envisions building a fully integrated digital ecosystem—connecting production, distribution, sales, and direct interactions with both retailers and end consumers.

“Our ultimate goal is to optimize every aspect of operations to create a sustainable and unparalleled competitive edge,” the report states.

In the past, optimizing a single feature might take two to three months. Today, Vinamilk’s in-house tech team can implement changes in a matter of weeks—or even just two to three days for simpler features. For example, during the launch of the “1-for-1 Contribution” campaign (in which Vinamilk donated one box of milk for every one contributed by a customer), the team built a fully functional ordering website within 24 hours. The campaign was launched in time to support communities in Northern Vietnam affected by Typhoon Yagi in late 2024.

Vinamilk’s recent progress in e-commerce highlights the early success of its bold digital strategy. According to data from Metric, Vinamilk was the only Vietnamese brand ranked in the top 10 best-selling brands across four major e-commerce platforms—Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, and Sendo—in 2024. This marked a nearly 50% increase in sales compared to 2023. The brand now ranks 7th among top-selling brands on Vietnam’s e-commerce platforms, climbing two spots year-over-year.
